Our History

Senior Helpers of Scottsdale was proud to join the exceptional team of over 300 other Senior Helpers owners in 2007.  Shaun Phelan was inspired to start providing quality care to the senior population after he witnessed the challenges his family experienced while trying to care for his grandfather. He realized the importance of providing personalized care to the senior population, so that your loved one feels like they are being cared for by someone they can connect with and never a stranger.

Shaun’s wife Tiffany had had similar experiences when her grandmother became the primary caregiver for her grandfather who had Hungtington’s Disease. Her grandmother struggled to find caregivers who were familiar with this rare disease or any neurodegenerative diseases. This posed many challenges for Tiffany and her family, but it was what inspired her to join Senior Helpers. This fueled her passion to provide high quality, skilled care in the Scottsdale area.

Like every other owner in the Senior Helpers family, we are fully-committed to the original goal of providing dependable and affordable in-home care with well-trained caregivers. Nothing is more important to us than being the best available resource for seniors and families in our community. We believe that our most important calling is to ensure seniors are safe in that we can preserve their dignity and improve their quality of life through our work.

Due to our on-going dedication to compassionate senior care we have been lucky to serve hundreds of seniors in the Scottsdale area over the years. At Senior Helpers we are committed to continuing to provide uncompromising levels of care to all our families.

In 2019 Senior Helpers was named a Fortune Magazine Great Place to Work and Best Place to Work in Aging Care Services based on surveys of current employees.

Our process

Our process

The first step in the process is a complimentary, initial in-home care assessment with the guidance of our Senior Helpers LIFE ProfileTM and a highly trained Senior Helpers consultant.  This assessment can help you understand the true needs of your loved one using a 5-point data-driven assessment tool, and all your options for determining the best plan of care for your entire family.

In the initial assessment we will cover:

  • Your family's specific goals
  • Personal preferences and individualized needs of your loved one
  • Your loved one's daily plan design and schedule
  • Pricing and payment methods
  • Implementation process
  • Ongoing communication and follow-up plan

Our goal is to serve your family member by providing the highest quality compassionate personalized dependable care.

Meet the Scottsdale Team

Shaun Phelan

Shaun Phelan

President

Shaun is the President and founder of Senior Helpers Scottsdale. He opened the Scottsdale office in 2007.  Shaun was drawn to the idea of opening a senior care business after helping his mother care for his ailing grandfather.  He watched as his mother lovingly provided care through the last days of his grandfather’s life and saw the burden that was placed on her. When he learned about in-home care services, he immediately knew that this was his opportunity to make a difference.

Tiffany Phelan

Tiffany Phelan

Director of Operations

Tiffany oversees all of the care management in the Scottsdale Senior Helpers office. In partnership with her husband Shaun, they strive to provide compassionate care to seniors and families in the Scottsdale area. She has spent 16 years in the home care industry and has a passion for supporting families during the last years of their loved one’s lives. Helping others find the best in-home care possible is the most rewarding thing she has ever done, other than raising her three daughters. When she is not working, you can find her with her daughters at a swim meet, riding their bikes, or having a family dinner with Tiffany’s mother Rachel, who is also a client of Senior Helpers.

Amanda Richards

Amanda Richards

Sal Leo

Sal Leo

Field Support Specialist

Sal began with Senior Helpers in the role of a caregiver.  He was quickly recognized for his outstanding attention to his clients and high caregiving skill set.  Upon becoming the Senior Helpers Field Support Specialist, Sal began to use his own skills to upskill our entire care team.  Sal is one of the first faces that a new caregiver will meet.  He runs many of our training sessions, including our orientation and can train on skills such as giving a bed bath, using a Hoyer lift, or helping a senior to get out of their chair.  Sal's easygoing personality and extensive skill set is what sets him apart as a leader.  During his down time, Sal loves spending time with his sons and doing new, interesting, and creative things!

Barbara Finn

Barbara Finn

Scheduler

Barbara is the newest addition to the Senior Helpers team and has enriched our office with her background in senior care, behavioral health, education and working with those with developmental disabilities.  The best way to describe Barbara is cool, calm, and collected.  She is also kind hearted and patient--the perfect mix for scheduling.  She loves helping not only our clients but also our employees to have a wonderful experience with Senior Helpers and is often the first voice you will hear when you call our office.  In her downtime, Barbara loves to spend time with her kids and her pets--even her 17 year old fur baby, Blue.
