Travel Safety Tips for Summer

Summer will be officially here in just one week! School is out and vacations have been planned, which means more time in the air or on the road. Traveling can be stressful for anyone, but traveling with an aging loved one can create even more worry. But don't let the fear of traveling with your elderly loved one keep you at home!

Check out these tips to ensure you and your loved ones have a smooth and safe ride.

Consult your physician – As always, the first step is to speak with your medical professional to ensure it is safe for your senior to travel. Your doctor can also provide necessary medications or medical equipment to make sure your loved one is well taken care of on the road.

Pack and prepare – When you are traveling with aging loved ones it is vital to be prepared. Make sure you pack enough clothing as well as snacks and of course, medication. We always suggest bringing extra medication just in case you should stay longer than anticipated.

Do your homework – Map out the area you are visiting so you are aware of hospital locations. It is also important to check with your insurance company to see where you will be covered while you are out of town.

Ask for help – When in doubt, always ask for help! Senior Helpers is here to help take the stress from you, and take an active role in caring for your loved one – even when you are on vacation! Call your local Senior Helpers office today for more information on these services!
