Caring for your Senior Parents Through the COVID-19 Crisis

Caring for your aging parents can be stressful in itself but the coronavirus, or COVID-19, has made it even more so.  As the adult daughter of an elderly mother with a debilitating neurodegenerative disease, I feel your pain.  My mother lives with me and is now social distancing inside of our home.  We are lucky enough to already have a caregiver in place to help her each day and my husband and I rudder the ship of our in-home care company as we weather this storm.  As challenging as it may be for our family, we feel very lucky that my mom was already living with us as there are families who are unable to see their elderly loved ones in their locked down assisted living facilities.

As the news changes and it is becoming more apparent that this crisis will last months, not weeks, more and more families are deciding to move their elderly loved ones home and hire caregivers to come to the home and offer additional support for a few hours per day, as an alternative to assisted living.  Senior Helpers has been busy putting their crisis management plans into action and are prepared for the influx of seniors who need additional caregiver services during their social isolation.

Senior Helpers is also assisting local churches at keeping their parishioners safe and making sure the basics of shopping, prescription pick up, and even telehealth doctor's appointments are completed.
