May is a special month for the Navy, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines, Space Force, and National Guard; we celebrate all of them and their families during this time. In 1999, Congress designated May to the Armed Forces. The president will address the country to honor and celebrate the military. During this month, we reflect on all the sacrifices our Armed Forces have made for us. The month includes many dates to celebrate; we celebrate Loyalty Day, VE Day, Military Spouse Appreciation Day, Mother’s Day, Armed Forces Day, and Memorial Day. Senior Helpers wants to remind you of all these important dates.
Loyalty Day
Loyalty Day is celebrated on May 1st each year. The day reminds the United States to uphold the heritage of American freedom. Since 1958, the president has made an official statement on this day. Here is the White House Proclamation
VE Day
Victory in Europe Day celebrates the end of World War II on the European front. A day to reflect and remember those who suffered, and those who fought.
Military Spouse Appreciation Day
This day was declared by Congress in 1999 to honor the spouses of our Armed Forces. On Military Spouse Appreciation Day we honor the contributions and sacrifices made by military spouses. They have supported our troops and uprooted their lives time and time again, serving our country just like their loved ones.
Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day celebrates all the moms out there who nurture and care for their children. During Military Appreciation Month, we want to recognize all of the military mothers who are supporting service members.
Armed Forces Day
This day celebrates the military forces. Those currently serving, previously served, or lost their lives to defend our freedom deserve all the appreciation and attention on this day.
Memorial Day
Memorial Day honors those who have died fighting for our country. Our fallen soldiers should be remembered, honored, and cherished each year.
