In the United States, every 65 seconds someone develops Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, and more than five million Americans have the disease—and 2/3 of them are women.
To help stamp out this devastating disease, the Senior Helpers office in Oak Brook and the Senior Helpers office in Northbrook are participating in the “Walk to End Alzheimer’s”.
The walk will take place in Busse Woods (Groves 28-30) in Elk Grove Village. Although registration is at 8 a.m., you may sign up in advance with the Senior Helpers office to be part of their team. Call the Oak Brook Office at 630-359-5775 to register. The walk starts at 10 a.m. and is 3.2 miles.
The Flower Garden Ceremony is at 9:30 a.m. Participants come together to make a commitment to fulfill their promise to remember, to honor, to care and to fight Alzheimer’s disease. On Walk Day, walkers have an opportunity to receive a promise flower and write a personal message on it to strengthen their dedication. Each color blue, purple, yellow and orange stands for the reason someone is participating.
“The goal of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s is to raise money for research, find a cure to end Alzheimer’s and to raise awareness for this disease”, said Director of Operations Mary O’Connor at the Senior Helpers Oak Brook office.
“The Walk to End Alzheimer’s began in 1989. Today, more than 600 communities participate in this event,” O’Connor added.
