Reaching understanding with a loved one or client who has Alzheimer’s, or another form of dementia, can be a challenge. Topics covered: normal aging, dementia, Alzheimer’s, a tour of the brain, cues and techniques for success, creating a positive environment, supportive communications, and importance of activities. Monthly Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group- Sturges Ridge

Senior Helpers of Fairfield and Sturges Ridge offer an ongoing support group for families and friends of people affected by Alzheimer's and dementia. This support group is specifically designed to address the unique needs of the caregivers of loved ones with Memory Impairment. This group is caregiver-focused and is intended to allow you to tell your story, to learn about the disease, to reflect on your journey, and to gain coping tools and strategies to address your own needs – Mind, Body and Spirit. Caregiving requires courage, fortitude and perseverance. It is a journey and you are not alone. It is our goal and hope that this group gives you continued strength and encouragement. Maplewood at Southport and Senior Helpers of Fairfield offer an ongoing support group for families and friends of people affected by Alzheimer's and dementia. Join us in this safe and caring space where people touched by Alzheimer's and related dementia can learn more about the disease, share concerns and ideas, express their feelings, and hear about advances in research and advocacy. Our group is facilitated by professionals experienced with dementia, and everyone is welcome ... especially family members and caregivers. Facilitated by Senior Helpers Owner, Katie Vanovitch

Monthly Parkinson’s Class

Parkinson’s disease is a unique challenge for individuals and their caregivers. Senior Helpers understands this challenge and has the tools to assist – with a program created by a RN from a renowned Movement Disorder Center, caregivers and families understand the major motor symptoms and variety of non-motor symptoms, strategies and techniques on how best to keep safe and active, and the importance of exercise and activity to maintain balance, mobility, and activities of daily living.
