ALS - Support and Care with Senior Helpers

Whether you have been caring for a loved one with ALS, or your loved one has just received a diagnosis of ALS, it is important to not only educate yourself on the disease itself but to know your options for care. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, according to the ATSDR, is also known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”. This is a progressive disease that attacks the nerve cells that control your voluntary movement. Symptoms of ALS include:

  • stumbling

  • falling

  • loss of muscle control and strength in hands and arms

  • trouble speaking

  • difficulty swallowing and/or breathing

  • consistent fatigue

  • muscle twitching

  • drooling

Just because you or a loved one gets diagnosed with ALS does not mean that you don’t get to enjoy life like everyone else. At Senior Helpers, it is one of our core values to ensure that you and your loved one’s quality of life is improved. More often than not, caregiving for someone with ALS can take a significant emotional toll on you. This effect on your mental well-being can interfere with your ability to care for your loved when. That is when you and your family members need to remind ourselves that it’s okay to look for help. We can help you create a personalized plan of care that will allow you to maintain the maximum amount of independence while remaining in the comfort of your own home.

If you want to find out or know more about our care services, or to speak with a Senior Helpers care expert about creating a customized care plan for your loved one, please contact us today.
