Senior Helpers Center of Excellence

As long-time members of the senior care community, Senior Helpers Memphis has always seen the need for better, more comprehensive training for people working with seniors.  They also know that professional caregivers usually have a passion for learning and improving their skills. The Senior Helpers Center of Excellence in Caregiving was born from this need.  Senior Helpers Memphis soon realized the community could benefit as well.  As a result, they set out to create an environment where anyone can upskill to meet the needs of our senior population.

One-on-One Family Training Sessions

Are you caring for a friend or loved one? Is he or she aging and needs extra help? Do you ever wish you had access to training to help you be a better caregiver? Look no further. Senior Helpers Memphis has rolled out our One-on-One Training Sessions for families where you will get to work with our professional caregiver trainer, have your questions answered, and learn new skills to care for your loved one. If you are interested, please contact us and we will arrange a day to work with you in our Center of Excellence.

The Center of Excellence is a training space designed as a realistic simulation of a client’s home. Training occurring here helps caregivers identify hazardous items, learn more about the safety of a client’s home, and demonstrate the proper use of durable medical equipment (DME), so caregivers can better assist with mobility, transfers, bathing, and toileting assistance.

This unique and innovative space is designed to support interactive training and education opportunities for our caregivers, family caregivers, and industry professionals. The center is located within our Senior Helpers office, with a focus on the highest risks areas, such as the bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen.

The Center of Excellence in Caregiving is a one-of-a-kind immersive experience where attendees can participate in a wide range of trainings that touch on all areas of caregiving.  The training setting is a studio home, just like what many of our caregivers experience in the field.  Trainers at Senior Helpers Memphis have met with local experts in various fields to create trainings such as:

  • The Importance of Autonomy in Caregiving
  • Basic Caregiving Strategies
  • Senior GEMS Training for Alzheimer’s and Dementia Caregivers
  • Parkinson’s Disease 101
  • Quality of Life as We Age

Welcome to the Senior Helpers Center of Excellence in Memphis

View the training setting located inside our office space that simulates the experience a caregiver may have inside of a client's home. The Senior Helpers Center of Excellence in Caregiving is a small studio apartment built inside of our office, which has a living space, hospital bed, kitchen area, and bathroom space. The studio allows us to elevate our own caregivers' skills and knowledge and elevate the skills and knowledge of family caregivers and members of the community who assist the elderly.

Meet Pat, the newest addition to our Center of Excellence!
Entering our Center of Excellence begins with an exterior door like in our clients' homes.
As you enter the studio apartment, you will be in the living space complete with a lift chair, Buddy the dog, and various fall risks. To the right of the window, is a small kitchen table set with weighted utensils and other items to aid in training.
In the bedroom/ bathroom space, you will notice a hospital bed as well as a Hoyer lift. Again, several fall risks have been added to keep the space as real life as possible. On the inside wall, there are items to aid in a bathroom setting.
Lastly, in the living space, are everyday items such as a wheelchair, walker, TV along with fall risks such as loose wires and an area rug.
