Join Jessica D. Speroff, M.S., CTRS, CDP for an engaging presentation on age-related changes caused by dementia. Many times, people are uncomfortable and unprepared to deal with cognitive changes that may happen to them or their friends later in life. Arming yourself with knowledge on the disease process and how individuals with dementia are perceiving the world around them paves the way to understanding and advocating for those living with cognitive impairment. This presentation will compare and contrast normal and abnormal aging, discuss real-life examples of how dementia impacts daily life, and offer suggestions on how friends and family can empower themselves and those living with dementia to lead full, meaningful lives.
Senior Helper's Jessica D. Speroff, M.S., CTRS, CDP will provide an overview of dementia and the disease process, address common communication difficulties faced by friends and caregivers, and offer solutions on how to ensure both the volunteer and patient enjoy a positive visit. The presentation will include opportunities for questions throughout, and we will also do some role playing to ensure the volunteers are comfortable in any areas they feel they need guidance.
Unfortunately, depression and anxiety are common comorbidities in people with dementia. While medications can be helpful for many, nonpharmacological interventions can also be beneficial. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. The event is from 6pm to 7pm and is open to the public. Please RSVP to Bellingham at 610-436-6663.
