Meet the Salem, OR Office

More than 90% of seniors want to age in their own home with dignity but getting the right type of care can seem daunting. At Senior Helpers Salem we believe that getting the best care for your loved ones should not be complicated. Melanie and Jim Reynolds opened the Senior Helpers Salem office because of their passion for helping others and their interest in the growing need for in-home care services. Melanie and Jim are committed to delivering the best possible in-home care to seniors in the Salem community.

We take in-home care seriously and make it a priority to provide the highest level of client service possible. Over the years we have built an exceptional team of care professionals, each committed to remaining at the forefront of the in-home care industry through our proprietary ongoing training and education programs.

Our History

Senior Helpers was founded in 2002 by Tony Bonacuse with the help of Peter Ross after their firsthand experience in caring for their respective family members. Tony and Peter identified a need that was not being filled properly by the other companies. They realized most seniors would prefer to age in their own home rather than move into an unfamiliar institution. Unfortunately, the options available to most seniors were very limited. Most seniors did not have access to well-trained, dependable and affordable in-home care. This was the mission-driven spark that started Senior Helpers.

The first office opened in Baltimore and quickly developed a reputation for delivering excellent in-home senior care with their well-trained staff of professional caregivers. Based on the success of the Baltimore location, the company began to expand.  Over the past 13 years, the Senior Helpers family has grown to include a network of more than 300 locally owned and operated franchises across the United States.

Senior Helpers Salem, like every other location, is fully committed to the original goal of providing dependable and affordable in-home care with well-trained caregivers. Nothing is more important to us than being the best available resource for seniors and families in our community.

Melanie and Jim were drawn to Senior Helpers because of their passion for serving others.

We have been lucky to serve hundreds of seniors in our community over the years, and we are committed to continuing to provide uncompromising levels of care to all our families.

Our process

The first step in the process is a complimentary, initial in-home care assessment with a Senior Helpers consultant.  This assessment can help you understand the true needs of your loved one and your options. Together we can discuss their needs, review our senior care services and determine what’s best for your entire family.

We will cover:

  • Your family's specific goals
  • Your loved one's daily plan design and schedule
  • Pricing and payment methods
  •  Implementation process
  • Ongoing communication and follow-up plan

Konni Readen

Caregiver Services

Helping people is a passion of mine. I have worked at Senior Helpers since October of 2014. We have a great team here and I enjoy working with each one of them to provide quality care to our clients and support to our caregivers. I moved here from Northern California with my three children. I am now a proud Grandmother of adorable twin boys and spend a lot of free time with my family and exploring Oregon.

Jamie Morris

Client Services Coordinator

I was born in Salem, raised in Silverton, OR, and have lived in Salem all my adult life. I have a spunky younger daughter and we love to do crafts, hiking, cooking and spending time outdoors. I am not your ordinary girl, I am a gamer, who live streams her games for an audience. My favorite season is fall because of all the amazing colors, the weather, and the smells. I started at Senior helpers in 2017, What I like the most about Senior Helpers and my job is the idea of the company itself. I have worked in the caregiving world for over 10 years and I have always prided myself in helping others, so the idea of helping Seniors to remain in their own home’s as long as possible with the help of our caregivers just really warms my heart. I also really enjoy getting to speak with so many different people, and it gives me a chance to learn a lot. Prior to that I worked in the DD field for over 10 years.

Donna Bennett

Community Relations Director

I was born in Merced, California but throughout my life I have lived in 6 different states and 1 other country and always return to Salem, Oregon. My most rewarding job has been being a mother of my four children, 3 boys and 1 girl. As you can imagine it has been a very active job and it has come with its adventures and learning opportunities. We love to go camping, crabbing, hiking, and playing board games. In 2017 I was given an opportunity to work with an amazing, cohesive and fun team here at Senior Helpers. I have a job I love, enjoy, and where I am able to help people and their families live independent lives.

Samantha Torres

Office Manager

I moved to Salem just over two years ago from Arizona. I loved my job in Phoenix but I longed to live in Oregon's more temperate climate with all its changing seasons. Before I knew it I made the change and I have been so happy here in Salem, not only with the beautiful autumn and Spring, but also with my new found family at Senior Helpers. Here I have felt encouraged to use my combined skills to achieve the most I can for this wonderful company, and we are moving forward every day.

Melanie and Jim Reynolds

Melanie worked in the medical and dental fields and Jim served in private or public organizations for over 35 years, until they left their careers to bring Senior Helpers to Salem. Their seven children and 15 grandchildren are scattered throughout the world, but fortunately the family dog is still at home with no intention to leave. Melanie and Jim love the outdoors and spend as much time as possible in outdoor pursuits. Their life’s passion, however, focuses on serving others. They volunteer in the community, in their church and among friends and family. Senior Helpers is a wonderful opportunity for them to further extend their plan to never stop serving.

Nichole Elliott

Director of Operations

I was born in Sacramento, California, but have spent most of my life in Oregon. My husband and I have two furbabies, and we enjoy camping, hiking, and going to the lake with our kayaks. I have a Bachelor's degree in Applied Psychology and my Master's of Business Administration. In the decade I've been providing customer service, I have worked in the healthcare industry and have over 2 years of experience working with seniors. I started my journey with Senior Helpers in early 2018, and I'm looking forward to growing with the family.

Mariah Towner

Client Services Coordinator

I chose to work with Senior Helpers because I wanted to be able to assist with providing quality care for seniors while they remain in their homes. I graduated from Western Oregon University in 2016 with my Bachelors in Gerontology. While I was obtaining my degree, I worked as a caregiver in an assisted living facility and provided in-home care as well. I also completed an internship with Adult Protective Services which was my driving force behind making sure the Seniors in our community are treated with dignity and respect. Aside from work, I am a mother to the most handsome three year old boy and spend all of my free time going on adventures with him.

Deborah Bishop

Care Services Manager

Hello!! I am a born and bred Salemite! I have worked in the senior care genre for about 30 years and it is my life passion! Aging in place and maintaining dignity and independence for our senior population is so important. I began as a caregiver and returned to school to earn my degrees in Health Promotion and Education with an emphasis on Geriatrics and Dementia and Health Services Management. I started with Senior Helpers in 2017 and truly love my “work family” and clients. I learn new and exciting things from my clients and their families every single day. I have a daughter and 3 amazing grandchildren that keep me laughing, along with my fur children Moz-B an English Mastiff and Roxi my 17 year old Yorki.

Tracy Danna, RN

Registered Nurse

Service to others brings me joy. I’m happy at Senior Helpers because my work enables our clients to maintain their independence and live where they choose. I lived with my mother for 15 years after Alzheimer’s Disease made it necessary for her to have help. I believe staying in her home made those years much easier on her. I truly valued the caregivers who assisted us. My work history includes biomedical research, US Peace Corps, health inspecting, bookkeeping and running an arts non-profit. The physical beauty and pleasurable climate drew me to Oregon from my roots in southeast Texas. My husband and I enjoy camping, hiking, birding, plants and wildlife, archaeology, chess, and lots of reading.
