Senior Helpers of Minneapolis - St. Paul Center of Excellence

At Senior Helpers, exceptional in-home care starts with purposeful training. That’s why our Center of Excellence, along with the Virtual Dementia Tour®, goes beyond the classroom, offering a fully immersive, hands-on environment that mirrors a client’s home, including high-risk areas like the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and living room. Here, in “Aunt Milly’s Place,” our caregivers practice real-life scenarios, build critical skills, and gain confidence before they ever step into a client’s home. This commitment to experiential learning ensures every caregiver is prepared to deliver safer, more personalized care that improves outcomes, enhances quality of life, and gives families confidence their loved ones are in capable, compassionate hands.

Empowering Caregivers, Families, and the Community

The Center of Excellence is designed to strengthen care at every level. Caregivers thrive when given the right tools and training. That’s why the Center is open not only to our staff, but also to family members caring for loved ones and professionals who support the aging population.

Through hands-on learning, participants build skills in areas like safe transfers, fall prevention, and dementia care. Whether new to caregiving or looking to grow, this space provides the education and support needed to deliver confident, compassionate care.

For Caregivers

New caregivers complete a detailed orientation process at the Center, including hands-on skills training. Current team members receive ongoing specialized training to build their knowledge and confidence as they care for clients throughout Minneapolis, St. Paul, and nearby communities.

For Families

The Center offers family caregivers the chance to experience and practice real-life care scenarios. Through workshops and support groups, families learn how to safely and confidently care for their loved ones while gaining a better understanding of various diagnoses.

For Industry Professionals

We regularly welcome referral partners and healthcare professionals for networking events, educational talks, and guided tours. Risk Assessment Activities and training demonstrations showcase our commitment to exceptional care and ongoing caregiver development.

Your Window Into Their World: The Virtual Dementia Tour

Your Window Into Their World: The Virtual Dementia Tour

The Virtual Dementia Tour (VDT) is a powerful, hands-on experience that helps participants better understand the physical and cognitive challenges faced by those living with dementia. Created by geriatric specialist P.K. Beville, this scientifically backed method uses patented sensory tools to simulate the effects of dementia, building greater empathy and awareness.

At Senior Helpers Minneapolis-St. Paul, we are trained Virtual Dementia Tour Facilitators. This powerful learning tool is part of every caregiver orientation, and we also offer scheduled tours and training sessions for family caregivers, professionals, and others in the community who support individuals living with dementia.

The Virtual Dementia Tour, created by P.K. Beville, is a scientifically proven method of building a greater understanding of dementia through the use of patented sensory tools and instruction. Proceeds from the sale of the Virtual Dementia Tour support the work of Second Wind Dreams, an internationally known nonprofit dedicated to changing the perception of aging through the fulfillment of elders' dreams.
