Our History

Senior Helpers of North Seattle was proud to join the system in 2026.  Like every other owner, we too are fully-committed to the original goal of providing dependable and accessible in-home care with well-trained caregivers. Nothing is more important to us than being the best available resource for seniors and families in our community.  We are lucky to serve hundreds of seniors in our community, and we are committed to continuing to provide uncompromising levels of care to all our families.

Senior Helpers of North Seattle is owned and operated by Anne Matthiesen, who advocates for high-quality senior care. We serve the North Seattle and Shoreline community from Lake Washington to Puget Sound including the neighborhoods of Ballard, North Beach, Crown Hill, Sunset Hill, Green Lake, Laurelhurst, Fremont, Wallingford, Bitter Lake, Broadview, Greenwood, Phinney Ridge, Richmond Beach, the Highlands, Whittier Heights, Northgate, Meadowbrook, View Ridge, Maple Leaf, Windermere, Hawthorne Hills, Roosevelt, Bryant, Matthews Beach, Lake City, Cedar Park, Victory Heights, Wedgwood, Pinehurst, the University District, Ravenna, and Sand Point.

Senior Helpers of North Seattle is rooted in the community. Anne grew up attending Seattle schools - the University of Washington, and Shoreline Community College - and volunteering at Harborview, Special Olympics and numerous local organizations. She knows these neighborhoods by bike, foot, cross-country skis, boat, bus and car. She is proud to honor the community by serving it through personal home care.

Anne believes in supporting people to live their best lives despite the limitations that present with aging or illness. Despite a long career in health care, she believes that this is only one element in living a healthy life. Remaining independent, yet engaged and connected to community, and continuing to do the things you love, are key to retaining health and staying active. Anne wants to make it possible for everyone to live their best life and that people should receive the assistance that they need to do so. That support could be as simple as transportation or help with housekeeping. It could be ensuring that the spouse of someone who has a critical illness doesn’t end up as the full-time caregiver, while depleting their own reserves. It could be helping someone back on their feet after an illness or hospital stay. It could be providing personal, caring support for someone to remain in their own home.

Anne spent time studying how this care is provided in other countries and how care is managed between the health care system and the home to keep seniors safe, independent and supported. She is passionate about creating a team of professionals that can tailor their services to meet the people that they serve.

She also believes strongly in the growth and learning that is possible in intergenerational and multicultural relationships. Anne hopes to recruit younger people to train as caregivers and to meet a broader network of people through her work in this field – through diversity we can build a stronger community. Caregiving is also an opportunity to grow our compassion. Caregivers are the foundation of our community and should be honored as such. It is a true talent to meet people with joy, respect and compassion.

Anne is excited to use her own training as a caregiver to serve the community and to connect to community resources to build a network of services and assistance that meets each person where they are and helps them achieve their life goals.

At Senior Helpers of North Seattle, our primary goal is to help provide a high quality of life for our clients and their families, by delivering customized, dependable and affordable care. Many on our team of highly qualified caregivers and staff grew up or live in the area. We are invested in this community and we look forward to serving North Seattle!

Senior Helpers was founded in 2002 by Tony Bonacuse with the help of Peter Ross after their firsthand experience in caring for their respective family members. Tony and Peter identified a need that was not being filled properly by the other companies.  They realized that most seniors would prefer to age in their own home rather than move into an unfamiliar institution.  Unfortunately, the options available to most seniors were very limited.  Most seniors did not have access to well-trained, dependable and accessible in-home care. This was the mission-driven spark that started Senior Helpers.

The first office opened in Baltimore, Maryland, and quickly developed a reputation for delivering excellent in-home senior care with their well-trained staff of professional caregivers. Based on the success of the Baltimore location, the company began to expand.  For more than 20 years, the Senior Helpers family has grown to include a network of more than 300 locally owned and operated franchises across the United States.

Our process

Our process

The first step in the process is a complimentary, initial in-home care assessment with a Senior Helpers consultant.  This assessment can help you understand the true needs of your loved one, and your options. Together we can discuss their needs, our senior care services and determine what’s best for your entire family.

We will cover:

  • Your family's specific goals
  • Your loved one's daily plan design and schedule
  • Pricing and payment methods
  •  Implementation process
  • Ongoing communication and follow-up plan

Meet the North Seattle Team

Anne Matthiesen

Anne Matthiesen

Owner

Anne Matthiesen’s passion for caregiving began with her grandparents, who were foundational in her life. She was fortunate to have them live independently in their home until they passed, and she saw firsthand how the right support and strong community can help older adults continue to live life on their own terms.

Anne is excited to bring Senior Helpers to the Seattle community where she grew up. With a background in health care administration and a CNA certification, she is especially grateful for the opportunity to be closer to the caregiving side of health care and make a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors and their families.

Community and connection have always been central to Anne’s life. She has volunteered with schools, local organizations, Special Olympics, Harborview and other medical organizations. She also founded Mommaballers, a community of women who come together to play sports and build friendships.

Outside of work, Anne enjoys staying active, hiking, walking her dog, cold plunges and spending time with family and friends. She and her husband, whom she went to prom with, are proud parents of independent children.

Anne believes the most important time is always now and that caring for and connecting with others is one of the most important things we can do. She looks forward to providing compassionate care and helping seniors remain independent, connected and engaged in the communities they call home.

I want to take this opportunity to express our thanks for the superb work Diane did for Dad while he was in the hospital. She was punctual, personable, and dedicated. She helped my Dad immensely during a difficult time for him. Her calm manner and brilliant smile worked magic. My Dad’s attitude changed completely for the better after her first visit. Thank you so much for giving us Diane. She really is a remarkable person and very caring.
