How Much Water Do You Need to Drink?: A Helpful Guide for Seniors

Seniors also need additional fluids when going through bouts of illness, exercising heavily outdoors in summer months, and taking medications that can alter physical sensations like feeling thirsty.   

In addition to daily hydration goals, seniors should be aware of the importance of increasing fluid intake when temperatures rise and during increased physical activity. This can help prevent conditions associated with sweating, such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke. We should all become familiar with dehydration signs to take swift action if needed. Common signs include: 

  • Fatigue
  • Confusion
  • Dizziness
  • Rapid pulse rate 
  • Feeling lightheaded or about to faint
