Happy Saint Patricks Day with In Home Elderly Care

Happy Saint Patricks Day with In Home Elderly Care

There are many ways to show your Irish spirit for St. Patrick’s Day.  One of the easiest ways to show your pride is to wear green.  Hang a shamrock on your front door.  Nosh on a yummy green bagel.  Serve up an Irish corned beef dinner with potatoes for a delicious festive feast.  Typical Irish dinners such as corned beef and cabbage is a popular way for many Americans to dine with Ireland in mind.  Add food coloring to breakfast to create green pancakes that are as pretty and festive as they are tasty.  Shepard’s Pie is a delicious and traditional Irish comfort food to serve on March 17th.  Sweet Irish soda bread, apple oatmeal crisp, mint chocolate Guinness brownies, and anything with cabbage or Reuben is sure to be a crowd pleaser!

A fun way to spend St Patrick’s Day with our senior loved ones is to create a progressive dinner with friends and family in the neighborhood.  Gather friends and family to figure out which portion of dinner each would like to prepare.  One home can start with drinks, the next would host appetizers, and the following homes would prepare dinner and dessert.  It’s a great way to socialize with friends without having to leave the neighborhood.

In many parts of the country St Patrick’s Day falls on a spring-like day.  What’s a better way to welcome warmer weather than by getting out and gardening?  Gardening is a great way to spend quality time with the great outdoors as well as beautifying your aging loved one’s home and yard.  Planting flower or vegetable seeds is a quick and easy way to get your aging loved ones involved and provide them with a sense of accomplishment.  Once the garden is in full bloom, help your loved ones enjoy the flowers and vegetables by sharing with their friends and family.  You can also use the vegetables to create a healthy snack for everyone to share!

Irish or not, St. Patrick’s Day is a great reason to get crafty, celebrate a rich heritage and show off your creative skills.  A fun way to show your festive spirit is to get crafty. A St. Patrick’s Day craft for all ages can be creating your own holiday wreath.  Simple shamrock shaped flowers can be created by tying pipe cleaner around a coffee filter and dying it green.  Glue those or fabric carnation flowers to a premade wreath foam piece, or a wire coat hanger stretched into a circle, and you have a new spring decoration for your front door.  To add a bit of Irish authenticity to any St. Patrick’s Day craft, incorporate the Irish form of cheers, “Slainte” or a the familiar phrase, “Kiss me I’m Irish”.

The 17th of March is widely known and celebrated as St Patrick’s Day in the United States.  This popular holiday is not only useful for traditional Irish themed events; it’s also a great way to celebrate the arrival of spring and an excellent excuse to get out of the house and enjoy friends and family.   Regardless of the foods, games and decorations planned, the most important part of any holiday is the people who celebrate together.
