How to Stay Hydrated This Summer With Water-Rich Foods

No matter your age or activity level, everyone needs to stay hydrated. Proper hydration is one of the most important things when it comes to health and energy levels. Getting enough water can be a challenge in the warm summers of Minneapolis, especially if you don't like the taste of water. However, there are other ways to stay hydrated with the help of water-rich foods. 

Here are our three tips to stay hydrated that don't require drinking water:

Eat Water-Rich Foods

Believe it or not, people can stay hydrated by eating water-rich foods. They will receive additional nutritional benefits that can't be found in normal water. With that said, here are some nutritious water-rich foods:

  • Strawberries– Strawberries are not only flavorful but are made of 91% water. They are also full of antioxidants. 
  • Cantaloupe– Not only is cantaloupe 90% water, but it is also extremely nutritious. One cup of cantaloupe provides your body with 120% of your daily vitamin A needs, according to Healthline
  • Peaches– Peaches contain 89% water, and are also full of potassium. 
  • Bell Peppers– If you're looking for something a little less sweet, you can count on bell peppers to carry about 92% water. 
  • Cabbage– Everyone knows that cabbage is loaded with fiber, but it also carries about 92% water. 

Add Flavor to Water

If you don't like the flavor of tap water, adding a little flavor can make it more appetizing. Here are some popular ways to make water more enjoyable:

  • Add fruit slices– Simply adding a few orange or lime wedges can really boost the flavor of the water. Not to mention it adds a nice aesthetic.
  • Infuse your water– By getting a pitcher of water and allowing certain fruits to soak overnight can add a whole new element to their flavor. Popular fruits for infusion include blueberries, cucumbers, and melons.
  • Spice it up– Reaching for your spice cabinet can also help boost your water's flavor. Mint, basil, ginger, cilantro, and rosemary are all great ways to make your water taste better. 

Other Drinks That Will Help You Hydrate

  • Coconut water– There's a good reason why coconut water has gotten so popular in the past few years. Not only does coconut water help you rehydrate, but it's also packed with potassium. The unsweetened options are a unique taste and may require some time to get used to.
