How to Organize Your Holiday Shopping If You Have Early-Stage Dementia

Almost everyone is a bit forgetful when it comes to holiday shopping, but it can be even worse when you have early-stage dementia. Having early-stage dementia can make the entire holiday season frustrating because it's easy to forget things, especially when you don't make an effort to be organized. Don't let that get you down though! Senior Helpers of Frederick has compiled a list of ways to organize your holiday shopping and festivities.

Make a List

One of the easiest ways to stay organized during any time of the year is by making a list of things you need to do or get. Write things down as you remember them instead of trying to force yourself to remember every single thing at once. It's okay to forget something and add it to the list later!

Making a list is especially helpful before going to the store. It's easy to forget a couple of things while shopping at the store, and that's why so many people make grocery lists. Whether you're shopping for holiday foods or gifts for your friends and family, a shopping list is a great way to be sure you're not forgetting anything.

Write Everything Down

A lot is going on during the holiday season and it's not always easy to keep up with what's happening on which day. It's best practice to keep a calendar around, or use one on your phone or laptop, to write down the dates of events. Even if you don't have a calendar, writing down the dates of events or gatherings in a notebook you carry around can be a great help when it comes to remembering when to do something.

This can also work well when it comes to getting gifts for loved ones. It's not easy to remember what everyone wants, so if you get an idea or someone tells you what they want, write it down immediately. You can add the item(s) to your holiday shopping list and pick it out the next time you head to the store.

Set Reminders

You can set reminders on your phone or computer, or you can ask a friend or family member to remind you of something at a certain time. This may not be viable for everyone, but it is an easy way to keep up with everything if writing down dates or making notes doesn't work for you.
