December is a busy month for many people. Ending the year strong by finishing up resolutions, tasks, and to-do lists, as well as all of the holiday shopping and celebrations, may leave one out of breath by the new year. However, if you are all caught up and looking for some additional activities this month, we have compiled a list of eight fun activities for seniors in the Honolulu and Fort Shafter area this December.

Holiday Events

  1. HapaSymphony Featuring Kimié Miner

December 10 at the Hawaii Theatre

The Hawai'i Symphony Orchestra plays alongside Grammy-nominated Producer, Singer-Songwriter, and Recording Artist Kimié Miner. Kimié will perform music from her album "Christmas in Hawai'i," which features holiday songs delivered in a style that is unique to your Hawai'i home. Tickets for this event can be purchased here.

  1. The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert

December 16-18 at the Hawaii Theatre

Watch a screening of the film The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert while the Hawai'i Symphony Orchestra performs the musical score for the film live.   1. Christmas Eve Dinner Buffet at The Kahala

December 24 at Plumeria Beach House

Reward all of your hard work this holiday season with a Christmas Eve buffet at the Kahala resort. Enjoy your meal alongside live music by Kings Kalohelani. The meal is all you can enjoy, and reservations can be made through OpenTable.

  1. New Years at Noon

December 31 at the Hawai'i Children's Discovery Center

For the young and young at heart who want to celebrate the New Year but do not want to stay up until midnight, the Hawai'i Children's Discovery Center will be hosting a balloon drop and countdown to noon.

Arts and Crafts (Fun Activities for Seniors)

  1. Rainbow Bonsai Club Annual Exhibition and Plant Sale

December 17th at Koko Head Elementary School

Interested in learning how to grow Bonsai trees? Just love to see how others have grown theirs? Head to Koko Head Elementary School and check out the Rainbow Bonsai Club's annual exhibition. There will also be live Bonsai demonstrations, a help desk, and a plant sale for those interested in caring for their own. December 17th at the Koko Marina Center

If you love looking through local craft and handmade products, be sure to check out the Koko Marina Center Craft and Gift Fair. Perfect for last-minute holiday gifts, with over 70 vendors participating in recent months, you are sure to find something for each of your loved ones.   1. U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón in The Green Room with Special Guest Brandy Nālani McDougall

December 13 at The Green Room at the Merwin Conservancy

If you love poetry, you will certainly enjoy this event at The Green Room, where Ada Limón, the 24th Poet Laureate of the United States, and special guest Brandy Nālani McDougall will perform poetry reading, participate in general conversation, and Ms. Limón will host a book signing. December 17 at the Lyon Arboretum

Love learning about the history and culture of your beloved island? Come to the Hear History event on December 17, where Kumu Anuhea Kānealiʻi will present stories of historic Mānoa.
