You can feel confident that your loved one is in good hands with Senior Helpers.

Our History

Senior Helpers was founded in 2002 by Tony Bonacuse with the help of Peter Ross after their firsthand experience in caring for their respective family members. Tony and Peter identified a need that was not being filled properly by the other companies.  They realized that most seniors would prefer to age in their own home rather than move into an unfamiliar institution.  Unfortunately, the options available to most seniors were very limited.  Most seniors did not have access to well-trained, dependable and accessible in-home care. This was the mission-driven spark that started Senior Helpers.

The first office opened in Baltimore, Maryland, and quickly developed a reputation for delivering excellent in-home senior care with their well-trained staff of professional caregivers. Based on the success of the Baltimore location, the company began to expand.  For more than 20 years, the Senior Helpers family has grown to include a network of more than 300 locally owned and operated franchises across the United States.

Senior Helpers of New Haven Coast was proud to join the system in 2026.  Like every other owner, we too are fully-committed to the original goal of providing dependable and accessible in-home care with well-trained caregivers. Nothing is more important to us than being the best available resource for seniors and families in our community.  We are lucky to serve hundreds of seniors in our community, and we are committed to continuing to provide uncompromising levels of care to all our families.

Our process

Our process

The first step in the process is a complimentary, initial in-home care assessment with a Senior Helpers consultant.  This assessment can help you understand the true needs of your loved one, and your options. Together we can discuss their needs, our senior care services and determine what’s best for your entire family.

We will cover:

  • Your family's specific goals
  • Your loved one's daily plan design and schedule
  • Pricing and payment methods
  •  Implementation process
  • Ongoing communication and follow-up plan

Meet the New Haven Coast Team

Jose

Jose "Jay" Dacuycuy III, BSN, RN

Registered Nurse and Managing Partner

Jay Dacuycuy’s journey in senior care began long before becoming a business owner. After moving to the United States from the Philippines with his wife, Gen, and their young son in 2009, Jay began his career as a caregiver, working directly with older adults, including individuals living with dementia. He later became a Registered Nurse and continued caring for patients in a variety of healthcare settings.

Those early caregiving experiences gave Jay a lasting appreciation for the trust families place in the people caring for someone they love. They also shaped his belief that exceptional care begins with dignity, compassion, reliability, and respect.

Today, as Managing Partner of Senior Helpers of New Haven Coast, Jay is focused on building an organization where families feel heard and supported and caregivers feel respected, valued, and empowered to grow. He believes compassionate care begins with compassionate leadership and that a strong culture should combine genuine care for people with clear standards and accountability.

Family remains at the center of Jay’s life. He is proud of the life he and Gen have built together and of watching their son graduate from the University of Connecticut. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, learning new things, and appreciating life’s simple moments.

Supporting families affected by Alzheimer’s disease is also especially meaningful to Jay. For the past six years, he and his family have supported the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

For Jay, Senior Helpers of New Haven Coast represents a continuation of the journey that began as a caregiver and an opportunity to serve the community his family now calls home.

Genalyn

Genalyn "Gen" Dacuycuy, BSN, RN, CMSRN

Registered Nurse and Co-Managing Partner

For Gen Dacuycuy, caring for others has been at the heart of her journey for many years. After moving to the United States from the Philippines with Jay and their young son in 2009, Gen began her career providing private-duty care to older adults. Those experiences gave her firsthand insight into the importance of trust, consistency, dignity, and meaningful relationships in caregiving.

Gen later became a Registered Nurse, building experience across long-term care, medical-surgical and telemetry nursing, and hospital float nursing. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to treating each person as an individual and providing care with compassion and respect.

As Co-Managing Partner of Senior Helpers of New Haven Coast, Gen is excited to bring her caregiving roots and nursing experience together to serve older adults and families in the community. She is especially passionate about creating an environment where caregivers feel supported and appreciated and where families can feel confident in the people caring for their loved ones.

Gen believes excellence requires continuous learning and a willingness to keep improving. She and Jay share a commitment to building a culture where families are heard, caregivers are valued, and doing what is right for clients remains at the center of every decision.

Supporting older adults and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease is particularly meaningful to Gen. For the past six years, she and her family have supported the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, and she looks forward to becoming even more involved in the local community.

For Gen, becoming a Senior Helpers owner is a meaningful continuation of a life and career devoted to caring for others.

I want to take this opportunity to express our thanks for the superb work Diane did for Dad while he was in the hospital. She was punctual, personable, and dedicated. She helped my Dad immensely during a difficult time for him. Her calm manner and brilliant smile worked magic. My Dad’s attitude changed completely for the better after her first visit. Thank you so much for giving us Diane. She really is a remarkable person and very caring.
