Meet the Foothills office

More than 90% of our beloved seniors want to gracefully age in their own homes with dignity, respect, and their pets, but finding the right type of care that allows them to do so can be daunting, especially west of Denver and in Colorado's foothills. At Senior Helpers Foothills CO, our passion is empowering seniors to stay in their own homes by providing trained care professionals to support them at every stage of graceful aging.

Our History

Senior Helpers was founded in 2002 by Tony Bonacuse with the help of Peter Ross after their firsthand experience in caring for their respective family members. Tony and Peter identified a need that was not being filled properly by the other companies. They realized that most seniors would prefer to age in their own home rather than move into an unfamiliar institution. Unfortunately, the options available to most seniors were very limited. Most seniors did not have access to well-trained, dependable and accessible in-home care. This was the mission-driven spark that started Senior Helpers.

The first office opened in Baltimore, Maryland, and quickly developed a reputation for delivering excellent in-home senior care with their well-trained staff of professional caregivers. Based on the success of the Baltimore location, the company began to expand. Over the past 13 years, the Senior Helpers family has grown to include a network of more than 300 locally owned and operated franchises across the United States.

Erika Armstrong was an air ambulance, corporate, charter, and airline pilot for 35 years until her life was literally intersected with an uninsured drunk driver. While navigating the fallout of not being able to fly again, she was also trying to support her aging parents, and it wasn’t going smoothly. Erika’s dad, a gruff Marine, grappled with how to preserve his dignity and safety at home. She moved him from Minnesota into her own house, only to discover how daunting caregiving could be. With no accessible help like Senior Helpers, Erika saw a clear, urgent need for these services. Since her life was stuck at a crossroads, she took a decisive right turn and bought a local Senior Helpers franchise to serve the Denver West and Mountain communities.

Senior Helpers of Foothills was proud to join the system in 2026. Like every other owner, we too are fully-committed to the original goal of providing dependable and accessible in-home care with well-trained caregivers. Nothing is more important to us than being the best available resource for seniors and families in our community. We are lucky to serve hundreds of seniors in our community, and we are committed to continuing to provide uncompromising levels of care to all our families.

Erika Armstrong

Owner and Head of Community Relations

Erika Armstrong grew up in Minnesota, and while attending the University of Minnesota and working at the Flying Cloud Airport, she discovered her passion for flying. She combined flying with patient care by flying for the Red Cross and later becoming an air ambulance pilot flying King Airs and Citation jets. She was then hired at the airlines and served as a flight engineer, first officer, and captain on the B727-200. When her airline base moved to Denver in 2000, she settled in the foothills and became involved in her community. After seeing a desperate need to support seniors who want to stay in their homes and community (especially those with pets) rather than go into a nursing home, she decided to purchase a Senior Helpers franchise to bridge the gap and empower seniors to stay safely at home longer.

Both of Erika’s daughters graduated from CU Boulder, and each day, her life is copiloted by at least two dogs and a mean cat. She is a board member of the Conifer Area Council, the Chairman of Bombardier’s Safety Standdown, and the author of A Chick in the Cockpit. She is also an aircraft systems, propulsion, and aviation professor, mentor, and certified therapist on the side.

Jennifer Wilson

Office Manager

Jennifer was born and raised in Evergreen, CO, and knew from an early age that she wanted to work in Health Care. After graduating from Evergreen High, she went on to earn her associate degree as a Medical Office Assistant.

She brings to Senior Helpers Foothills CO a wealth of knowledge after working for a vision clinic, managing the office of a hematology and oncology clinic, and running the office for construction companies. Most recently, she gained experience at a home health and hospice operation.

When not helping the community at Senior Helpers, her two red heeler dogs take her for walks, and she enjoys all the activities that are offered in our mountain town, so there’s a good chance you’ll run into her.
