Our History

Senior Helpers was founded in 2002 by Tony Bonacuse with the help of Peter Ross after their firsthand experience in caring for their respective family members. Tony and Peter identified a need that was not being filled properly by the other companies. They realized that most seniors would prefer to age in their own home rather than move into an unfamiliar institution. Unfortunately, the options available to most seniors were very limited. Most seniors did not have access to well-trained, dependable and accessible in-home care. This was the mission-driven spark that started Senior Helpers.

The first office opened in Baltimore, Maryland, and quickly developed a reputation for delivering excellent in-home senior care with their well-trained staff of professional caregivers. Based on the success of the Baltimore location, the company began to expand. Over the past 13 years, the Senior Helpers family has grown to include a network of more than 300 locally owned and operated franchises across the United States.

Senior Helpers of Colorado Springs was proud to join the system in 2026. Like every other owner, we too are fully-committed to the original goal of providing dependable and accessible in-home care with well-trained caregivers. Nothing is more important to us than being the best available resource for seniors and families in our community. We are lucky to serve hundreds of seniors in our community, and we are committed to continuing to provide uncompromising levels of care to all our families.

The first step in the process is a complimentary, initial in-home care assessment with a Senior Helpers consultant. Richard Busse

Owner

Richard Busse is the owner of Senior Helpers of Colorado Springs, where he is dedicated to helping older adults live safely and comfortably at home. His passion for senior care was inspired by his own family's experience, when a caregiver helped improve his mother's quality of life through compassionate in-home support. That experience motivated Richard to bring the same level of care to families in his own community.

A U.S. Navy veteran who served in the Nuclear Power Program during Desert Storm/Desert Shield, Richard later earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and spent more than 25 years in software engineering and leadership. He and his wife, Alyson, have raised two children together and enjoy spending time outdoors camping, fishing, gardening, and exploring Colorado. Richard is also an active volunteer with Richard's Rubbish Roundup, a local nonprofit dedicated to keeping Colorado Springs' parks, trails, and waterways clean.

Jennifer Potratz

Office Manager

Jennifer Potratz is the Office Manager at Senior Helpers Colorado Springs, where she is passionate about creating a positive experience for every client, family, and caregiver. She believes that great care begins with genuine relationships, open communication, and a team that is committed to making a difference in the lives of others.

In her role, Jennifer helps keep daily operations running smoothly while supporting clients, caregivers, and the leadership team. Whether she's coordinating behind the scenes or assisting families through the care process, she strives to ensure everyone feels welcomed, valued, and supported.

Jennifer finds the greatest fulfillment in helping older adults remain safe, comfortable, and independent in the place they call home. She is proud to be part of a team that leads with compassion and is dedicated to providing families with peace of mind through exceptional care.

When she's not at work, Jennifer enjoys spending quality time with her family, getting lost in a good book, attending live concerts, and relaxing by the pool whenever she can. She also has a passion for baking sourdough bread and appreciates the creativity and patience the process inspires. Jennifer believes life's simple moments—whether spent with loved ones or enjoying a fresh loaf of homemade sourdough—are often the most meaningful.
