Celebrate Grandparents and Labor Day with In Home Senior Care

Labor Day was created to honor the achievements of American workers.  The first Monday of September has long been celebrated as Labor Day in the United States.  For many people, it’s a day of relaxation.  Labor Day is traditionally the last day to wear white, the kickoff of college and professional football season, and for many students, the first three day weekend.  Labor Day is typically considered the unofficial last day of summer and the beginning of a new fall season.  The weather starts to feel a bit cooler and the smells of autumn start to surround us.  Labor Day means cookouts, pool parties, beach trips, relaxing and taking it easy with friends and family.  This leaves one to wonder is that what the holiday is really about?

Labor Day honors the social and economic achievements of American workers.  Who do you know who has worked harder in their lives to get ahead than your parents and grandparents?  Celebrate your aging loved ones’ achievements this year and remind them of their greatest accomplishments.  This Labor Day, take the time to honor your elderly loved one and their past work achievements.  A simple thank you and spending time with your senior loved one is often all that is necessary to show your appreciation.

Celebrating Labor Day doesn’t have to involve a lot of planning.   The holiday usually symbolizes the unofficial end of summer.  Labor Day is a good time to savor every last bit of sunshine and relax in the sun, lay by the shore, and enjoy the last bits of summer.   The three-day weekend is often a perfect excuse to go camping.  Unwinding in the great outdoors is the perfect way to recharge for the upcoming work week.

There is a saying that a way to a person’s heart is through their stomach.  Another way to show your aging loved one that you are care is to prepare a special treat for them.  Make their favorite meal or bake them a special dessert.  If you are not much of a cook, it’s okay to purchase this from your local bakery.  It truly is the thought that counts.  Make sure to remind them that you are preparing this special treat or meal in honor of their work.

Our grandparents are so unique and special, that a holiday was created specifically to honor them.  Grandparent’s Day is celebrated yearly on the first Sunday after Labor Day.  It’s important to take the time to celebrate our grandparents.  They have seen the ups and downs of life and have made it through good times and bad.  They are the backbone of the family and can provide great insight into any day-to-day situations.  Some grandparents are also providing much needed child care to grandchildren.  In many ways, our grandparents are simply irreplaceable.
