Celebrating Grandparents and Live In Senior Care

Celebrating Grandparents and Live In Senior Care

It really is amazing how much life a person can live.  When a child turns ten years old, they feel so mature already and they’ve accomplished so much by reaching the double-digit-age.  When a young adult turns eighteen, then twenty-one, they feel so free and independent; finally an adult.  So much has been experienced up to this age.  When we are in our thirties and forties, raising children or pursuing a career, we experience and learn so much.  It’s no wonder that when we become grandparents that we have so many stories to tell.  Each person in our family has a different perspective on life and it can be very interesting to view life through their eyes.  Grandparents, especially, have a very wide range of experiences and so much that can be shared.

Our grandparents are so unique and special, that a holiday was created specifically to honor them.  Grandparent’s Day is celebrated yearly on the first Sunday after Labor Day.  This is a yearly holiday was created to celebrate the connection of our eldest family members.  This holiday is perfect for taking your grandparents out for lunch and a movie.  Some museums are offering free admission; this could be a wonderful way to celebrate together.

The original idea behind Grandparents Day was to guarantee that our senior loved ones get special attention, especially if they are living in a nursing home.  This holiday is not just beneficial to those who are living in an assisted living home.  Even those who live independently in the comforts of home with in home care need some appreciation and love.

On this Grandparents Day, take the time to make a phone call, stop by for a visit or take the important grandparent in your life out for a delicious meal.  Have the whole family cook one of grandma’s favorite meals.  Bring a board game for the entire family to play together.  Create a CD of their favorite childhood tunes as a thoughtful gift.  If possible, host a family reunion.  Holidays are a wonderful way to get those who live far away to get together.

It’s important to take the time to celebrate our grandparents.  They have seen the ups and downs of life and have made it through good times and bad.  They are the backbone of the family and can provide great insight into any day-to-day situations.  Some grandparents are also providing much needed child care to grandchildren.  In many ways, our grandparents are simply irreplaceable.
