Foods for Better Eyesight and In Home Senior Care

As we age, there are many reasons to start eating right and to find ways to fuel our bodies in a healthy way.  We have learned that food plays an important role in how we feel and perform through the day.  There are good foods and bad, and while it’s important to avoid eating poorly all of the time; moderation is key to healthy and happy living.

Some foods are particularly good for certain parts of the body.  We may take for granted our gift of sight, and as we age, and with certain medications, vision may become poor.  Food can play an important role in improving eyesight.

Oily fish such as salmon and tuna are not only easy to prepare, but are also delicious to serve as main dishes.  Oranges and other juices are great for providing Vitamins and can be incorporated in cooking and served with meals.

One forgotten food that is usually only fondly remembered during cookouts in the summer is corn.  Corn is not only a tasty side dish, it is a healthy source of lutein, which reduces the risk of chronic eye disease.  Corn is not only tasty on the cob with some butter, it is also delicious in chili and casseroles that can be served in the colder months.

Some foods for better eyesight include fish, eggs, whole grains, leafy greens and citrus.  These healthy food options contain omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamins E and C, zinc, and other nutrients that are capable of fighting age-related vision problems.  Eating eggs, nuts, and beans are great ways to lead to good eye health.   Eggs are not only a great way to start the day for breakfast, but are also loaded in nutrients such as lutein, Vitamin E, and fatty acids.  Choosing foods for better eyesight will help with vision related problems such as macular degeneration and cataracts.  Eating a well-balanced diet is not only good for the waist line, but also prevents many illnesses and obesity-related diseases, which are known to cause blindness due to complications.
