Meet the Contra Costa office

More than 90% of seniors want to age in their own home with dignity but getting the right type of care can seem daunting.  At Senior Helpers Contra Costa we believe that getting the best care for your loved ones should not be complicated.  Richard Campagna purchased the Senior Helpers Contra Costa office in 2017 because of his passion for helping others and his interest in the growing need for in-home care services. Richard is committed to delivering the best possible in-home care to seniors in the Contra Costa community.

We take in-home care seriously and make it a priority to provide the highest level of client service possible.  Over the past 11 years we have built an exceptional team of care professionals, each committed to remaining at the forefront of the in-home care industry through our proprietary ongoing training and education programs.

Our History

Senior Helpers was founded in 2002 by Tony Bonacuse with the help of Peter Ross after their firsthand experience in caring for their respective family members. Tony and Peter identified a need that was not being filled properly by the other companies.  They realized most seniors would prefer to age in their own home rather than move into an unfamiliar institution. Unfortunately, the options available to most seniors were very limited. Most seniors did not have access to well-trained, dependable and affordable in-home care. This was the mission-driven spark that started Senior Helpers.

The first office opened in Baltimore, and quickly developed a reputation for delivering excellent in-home senior care with their well-trained staff of professional caregivers. Based on the success of the Baltimore location, the company began to expand.  Over the past 13 years, the Senior Helpers family has grown to include a network of more than 300 locally owned and operated franchises across the United States.

Senior Helpers of Contra Costa was proud to join the system in 2008.  Like every other Senior Helpers location, we too are fully-committed to the original goal of providing dependable and affordable in-home care with well-trained caregivers. Nothing is more important to us than being the best available resource for seniors and families in our community.

Richard Campagna was drawn to Senior Helpers because of personal experiences:    "After spending a year as the care provider for my wife while she suffered through a difficult illness and caring for my elderly parents, I came to understand the challenges family members have balancing their daily lives with caring for ill or elderly family members. Senior Helpers allows me to run a rewarding business that helps people in these difficult situations. We help to improve the lives of both our clients and their families.  Let us help you provide compassionate care for your loved ones while carrying on with your daily lives."

Our Senior Helpers of Contra Costa team has grown to include 5 team members and 50 caregivers. We have been lucky to serve hundreds of seniors in our community over the years, and we are committed to continuing to provide uncompromising levels of care to all our families.

Our process

Our process

The first step in the process is a complimentary, initial in-home care assessment with a Senior Helpers consultant.  This assessment can help you understand the true needs of your loved one, and your options. Together we can discuss their needs, our senior care services and determine what’s best for your entire family.

We will cover:

  • Your family's specific goals
  • Your loved one's daily plan design and schedule
  • Pricing and payment methods
  •  Implementation process
  • Ongoing communication and follow-up plan

Richard Campagna

Richard Campagna

Owner/President

I acquired Senior Helpers in 2017.  After spending a year as the care provider for my wife while she suffered through a difficult illness and caring for my elderly parents, I came to understand the challenges family members have balancing their daily lives with caring for ill or elderly family members. Senior Helpers allows me to run a rewarding business that helps people in these difficult situations, improving the lives of both our clients and their families.  Let us help you provide compassionate care for your loved ones while carrying on with your daily lives.

I spent many years as a Certified Public Accountant with one of the largest accounting firms in the world. I went on to pursue a career as an executive in the insurance industry serving as a Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer.  I recently relocated back to California to fulfill my desire to own my own business.  I purchased the Senior Helpers franchises providing senior in-home care to clients throughout the San Francisco East Bay area.

Bernice Almazan

Bernice Almazan

Scheduling Coordinator

Bernice started with Senior Helpers in May 2018. She is responsible for making sure our clients are matched with a caregiver that fits with the client’s needs.

Why I chose Senior Helpers: “I have been in the medical industry for over 10 years as a scheduler. I enjoy helping others and have a great compassion for the Elderly. I also cared for my grandmother and I know the struggle of not always being able to be there as I, too, had a job and family of my own. It brings me great joy to be able to provide caregivers for your loved ones, making sure the clients and their families are matched with the best caregiver for them.”

Client Service Manager

Sandi first started working for Senior Helpers in the spring of 2018 as Client Service Manager. She came from another home care agency where she was employed as Client Service Director. Prior to that she worked for almost 30 years for a company based out of Fremont as Operations Manager. In 2020 she took a leave of absence. April 2021 she returned to Senior Helpers as Client Service Manager.

Why I Chose Senior Helpers: “I wasn’t always available to help my own mother who lived 4 hours away. I knew after leaving my job of almost 30 years my calling was to work with the elderly.”

I love working for Senior Helpers we are like family.

I am so excited to be working with Senior Helpers clients and caregivers to provide any support that is needed.

Rise Against Hunger

Rise Against Hunger

Rich Campagna, owner of Senior Helpers of Moraga volunteered through his Rotary International Club to pack meals for Rise Against Hunger.  Together with other volunteers, we packed 30,000 meals which will be delivered to needy people across the country and the world.  Rich stated, “My back was killing me after hauling heavy bags around all day but in the end, it felt good to help those in need.”

Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Senior Helper is helping to improve the quality of life of seniors suffering from dementia by supporting community events aimed at researching a cure for these diseases. Our team raised almost $5000 in the Walnut Creek walk to End Alzheimer’s in 2018.  And we will be at it again in 2019.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity

Richard Campagna owner of Senior Helpers arranged volunteers with this Danville Rotary group to work on building homes at the Habitat for Humanity project in Walnut Creek, CA.  According to Rich, “It was hard work but felt good to be helping others.  After a handful of Tylenol, I sure slept well that night.”  The project when completed will provide 42 homes for those who could otherwise never afford a home in the high-cost Bay Area.
