Our History

Senior Helpers was founded in 2002 by Tony Bonacuse, with the support of Peter Ross, after both experienced the challenges of caring for their own family members. They recognized a gap in available resources—many seniors wanted to remain at home as they aged, but dependable, skilled, and compassionate in-home care options were scarce. Their mission to fill that gap became the foundation of Senior Helpers.

The very first office opened in Baltimore, Maryland, quickly earning a reputation for exceptional care provided by a dedicated team of trained professionals. Building on that success, Senior Helpers grew steadily, and today there are more than 300 locally owned and operated franchises nationwide.

Senior Helpers of Tempe proudly became part of this trusted network to continue carrying forward that original mission. Like every Senior Helpers location, our office is devoted to providing reliable, accessible in-home care with caregivers who receive ongoing training and support. We are honored to serve seniors and families in the Tempe, South Phoenix, Ahwatukee, and South Mountain communities and remain committed to delivering the highest standard of care each and every day.

Our process

At Senior Helpers of Tempe, we start with a complimentary in-home care assessment conducted by one of our care consultants. This initial meeting gives families the opportunity to better understand their loved one’s needs, explore available care options, and design a personalized plan that works best for everyone involved.

During the assessment, we’ll review:

A Message from Our Owner

At Senior Helpers of Tempe, our owner, Analaura DeVary, is passionate about providing seniors with the same level of care and respect she would want for her own family. Analaura believes that every client deserves to feel valued, safe, and supported — and that’s the guiding principle behind everything we do.

From personalized care plans to the meaningful relationships built between caregivers and clients, our team treats every senior like family. This commitment to compassion and dignity is at the heart of our mission in the Tempe community.

Meet the Tempe Team

James DeVary

Owner

Caregiving has always been a part of James’ life. As a child, he watched his mother care for his older brother, who was diagnosed with cancer, and he often accompanied her on visits to senior living communities to help brighten residents’ days. These early experiences shaped his understanding of compassion and the importance of caring for others.

As an adult, James has continued to live out those values. A U.S. Army veteran, he served eight years as an enlisted infantryman, including deployments in both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. For more than a decade, he has also volunteered with wounded veterans, gaining deep insight into the unique needs of veterans and their families.

Through Senior Helpers of Tempe, James is able to channel that lifelong commitment into serving his community. He is dedicated to building a strong team of caregivers who can make a positive impact in the lives of local seniors and their families. James carries forward the most important lesson the Army instilled in him: always strive to leave your community better than you found it.

Analaura DeVary

Owner

For Analaura, owning Senior Helpers of Tempe is more than a business — it’s personal. After her father suffered a debilitating stroke, she experienced firsthand the challenges of caring for a loved one from a distance. She understands the worry families face when a senior loses some or all of their independence, and how vital it is to have reliable, compassionate in-home care.

As a daughter, Analaura knows the peace of mind that comes from having someone she can trust to help with her father’s daily needs — from transportation to appointments, to medication reminders, to assistance with meals and personal care. That experience has shaped her commitment to ensuring that every family in Tempe has access to the same quality of care she wanted for her own dad.

Analaura takes great pride in supporting seniors in her community and is dedicated to making sure each client feels safe, respected, and never alone.

Fran Rivera

Director of People

Fran joined Senior Helpers with a background in the optical field, where she discovered a special connection with senior patients. Her experiences sparked a passion for supporting older adults and inspired her to pursue a career dedicated to senior care.

As Director of People at Senior Helpers of Tempe, Fran is focused on building and supporting a team of compassionate, skilled caregivers. She oversees hiring, training, and scheduling to ensure that every client receives consistent, high-quality care. Fran’s goal is to make sure families feel confident knowing their loved ones are in capable and caring hands.
