The Sandwich Generation: Are You Running on Empty?
You finish a work call, check in on your mom, answer a text from your child, and realize you have not had a quiet moment all day.
For many adults in Gilbert and across the East Valley, this has become a familiar rhythm.
They are raising children, helping aging parents, managing careers, running businesses, and trying to keep up with their own lives at the same time.
This is often called the sandwich generation, and while the name may sound lighthearted, the pressure can be very real.
That is why Senior Helpers of Gilbert and Chandler is excited to present a free community workshop at The CATALYST in Gilbert focused on helping family caregivers feel more informed, supported, and less alone.
A Conversation for People Caring in Every Direction
The Sandwich Generation: Are You Running on Empty? will be led by James DeVary of Senior Helpers.
This workshop is designed for people who may be caring for an aging parent while also balancing children, work, relationships, and other responsibilities.
The goal is not to tell anyone they need to do more.
It is to help people recognize when they may already be doing too much.
During the workshop, we will talk about:
- Recognizing signs of caregiver burnout
- Understanding how caregiving stress can affect work, health, and relationships
- Learning about federal programs and local support resources families may not know are available
- Letting go of caregiver guilt
- Understanding why asking for help can make it easier to keep showing up for the people you love
When Caregiving Quietly Becomes a Second Job
Many family caregivers do not think of themselves as caregivers at first.
They are simply helping Mom with groceries.
Then they start managing appointments.
Soon they are arranging transportation, checking medications, handling household needs, and worrying about what is happening when they are not there.
At the same time, their workday continues. Their children still need them. Dinner still needs to be made.
It can become a lot before anyone realizes just how much they are carrying.
This workshop creates space to have an honest conversation about that experience and learn about resources that may make the journey a little easier.

Support for Family Caregivers in Gilbert and the East Valley
At Senior Helpers of Gilbert and Chandler, we regularly meet families who have been trying to manage everything on their own.
Sometimes the solution is not a major change. It may be a few hours of respite care, help with transportation, meal preparation, companionship, or simply learning what resources are available.
Our goal is to help families find support that fits their situation while helping older adults maintain their independence and dignity at home.
If you are part of the sandwich generation, we hope you will join us at The CATALYST. Come learn, connect, and give yourself permission to think about your own well-being too.
