Senior Helpers Center of Excellence

The Center of Excellence is a training space designed as a realistic simulation of a client’s home. Training occurring here helps caregivers identify hazardous items, learn more about the safety of a client’s home, and demonstrate the proper use of durable medical equipment (DME), so caregivers can better assist with mobility, transfers, bathing, and toileting assistance.

This unique and innovative space is designed to support interactive training and education opportunities for our caregivers, family caregivers, and industry professionals. The center is located within our Senior Helpers office, with a focus on the highest risks areas, such as the bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen.

Our Owner is VDT Trainer Certified!

We’re proud to share that Brandy Alexander, one of the owners of Senior Helpers of East Columbia, has officially received her certification of completion of Certified Trainer for the Virtual Dementia Tour Comprehensive Program by Second Wind Dreams.

Our East Columbia office will now be able to offer VDT Tours to our clients, care team, partners and members of the community. These tours give participants a deeper understanding of what individuals living with dementia may experience, from sensory changes to communication challenges. It’s a powerful way to build empathy and improve the quality of care we deliver every day.

Tours will be offered starting in December 2025— Check back on our site for available dates and slots! If you would like to schedule a specific time or date, please call our office at (803) 973-0137 and we will work to accommodate.

The Center of Excellence in Caregiving is a one-of-a-kind immersive experience where attendees can participate in a wide range of trainings that touch on all areas of caregiving. The training setting is a home, just like what many of our caregivers experience in the field.

The Senior Helpers Center of Excellence in Caregiving is a small apartment built inside of our office which has a living room, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom. It is a space where we can elevate our own caregivers' skills and knowledge and where we can also elevate the skills and knowledge of family caregivers and members of the community who assist the elderly.
