We know that professional in-home caregivers usually have a passion for learning and improving their skills, but we also realize that what we offer here can benefit the community as a whole - family caregivers as well as those working in other areas of health care or with the aging population. Our Center of Excellence is a full-scale training environment designed to replicate a real client's home, complete with a bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, and sitting area. This immersive setting allows caregivers to gain hands-on experience with durable medical equipment (DME) while practicing real-life scenarios in a safe and supportive space.
Our training approach is intentionally interactive and experiential, helping caregivers build confidence, minimize errors, and strengthen critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The result is a truly engaging learning experience with the tools and resources needed to provide compassionate, high-quality care and improve the quality of life for our clients, their families, and our employees. For Caregivers:
New caregivers participate in weekly caregiver orientation and training sessions within the Center of Excellence, including detailed hands-on skills assessments. Current caregivers continue building their expertise through monthly GEMS classroom training, quarterly Parkinson's training, and interactive activities such as our "Find the Risk" caregiver exercises. This structured yet engaging approach ensures our team feels confident, knowledgeable, and fully prepared to provide exceptional support to our clients throughout Southern Maryland and the surrounding areas.
For Families:
The Center of Excellence provides families with the opportunity to experience and practice real-life scenarios they may face every day. Families can see firsthand how caregivers are trained, offering peace of mind and reassurance about the quality of care their loved one receives. COE tours and office visits help build confidence and trust in the care process, while educational talks and support groups are available to help families better understand a loved one's diagnosis and feel supported along their caregiving journey.
For Industry Professionals:
The Center of Excellence is often used to welcome referral partners and other industry professionals during networking events and educational lectures. Tours of the center and Risk Assessment Activity events showcase how Senior Helpers is committed to delivering the highest standard of care for our clients while investing deeply in ongoing caregiver training and professional development.
