Our History

Senior Helpers was founded in 2002 by Tony Bonacuse with the help of Peter Ross after their firsthand experience in caring for their respective family members. Tony and Peter identified a need that was not being filled properly by the other companies. They realized that most seniors would prefer to age in their own home rather than move into an unfamiliar institution. Unfortunately, the options available to most seniors were very limited. Most senior did not have access to well-trained, dependable and accessible in-home care. This was the mission-driven spark that started Senior Helpers. They realized that most seniors would prefer to age in their own home rather than move into an unfamiliar institution. Senior Helpers North Metro was proud to join the system in 2024.  Led by Corey and Dani, we at Senior Helpers North Metro are grateful to be serving the North Metro community and the families that need it most. We strive to provide quality, compassionate care to the community and are proudly working with the VA to serve our most esteemed Americans, our Veterans. We are fully-committed to the original goal of providing dependable and accessible in-home care with well-trained caregivers. Nothing is more important to us than being the best available resource for seniors and families in our community.  We are lucky to serve hundreds of seniors in our community, and we are committed to continuing to provide uncompromising levels of care to all our families.

Our process

Our process

The first step in the process is a complimentary, initial in-home care assessment with a Senior Helpers consultant.  This assessment can help you understand the true needs of your loved one, and your options. Together we can discuss their needs, our senior care services and determine what’s best for your entire family.

  • Pricing and payment methods
  •  Implementation process
  • Ongoing communication and follow-up plan

Meet the North Metro Team

Corey Johnson

Corey Johnson

Owner

Corey is dedicated to providing affordable and compassionate home care solutions for families navigating the challenges of aging. Recognizing the need for dependable care options in the North Metro community, Corey and his team at Senior Helpers, alongside other Twin Cities locations, are committed to being a trusted resource for families facing difficult decisions.

After graduating from Augustana University, Corey returned to the Twin Cities and embarked on his professional journey with the Minnesota Wild. The organization’s family-oriented culture and genuine commitment to its mission offered him unique opportunities to connect with families affected by cancer and veterans. In his role, he coordinated impactful theme nights such as Hockey Fights Cancer and Military Appreciation Night at the Xcel Energy Center.

As Corey’s family grew, he pivoted toward a career in analytics and marketing, earning an MBA from the University of St. Thomas, Opus College of Business. While excelling as a problem solver and marketing analyst, he recognized his true passion: to own and operate a business dedicated to improving lives and supporting families in need, particularly veterans. This realization led him to Senior Helpers—a perfect avenue for stepping away from the corporate grind and giving back to his community.

Joining Senior Helpers was a fulfilling calling for Corey, as he aimed to support the elderly community that shaped his upbringing. By becoming a certified vendor with the VA in Ramsey, he was able to operate an agency built on integrity, transparency, and honesty—a dream come true. As a respected agency in the North Metro area, Senior Helpers is dedicated to providing families with options that enable their loved ones to live independently at home. This mission allows Corey and his team to make a significant and immediate impact on families facing challenging decisions, offering them valuable support when they need it the most.

Corey is a dedicated father of three—Monroe (6), Hudson (5), and Wesley (3)—who treasures every moment with his wife, Terra, a Financial and Wealth Advisor and fellow entrepreneur. Together, they have cultivated a joyful and vibrant family, inspiring Corey every day.

In addition to family life, Corey is actively involved in his community, championing fundraisers for Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and dementia research, and collaborating with the VA to support veterans. His commitment to both family and community reflects his heartfelt dedication to making a positive impact in the lives of those around him.
