Veterans Day and Professional In-Home Care

After President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed an Armistice Day for November 11, 1919, he said, “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with lots of pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for our victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations.”

November 11th is an annual United States holiday made for taking the time to salute our military veterans and thank our brave men and women for their service and sacrifice, now known as Veterans Day.  Each November 11th, we are encouraged to show our American pride with our red, white and blue.  While it is should be a daily practice, the eleventh is the perfect day to thank a soldier in uniform whenever we see them.

This is the day to pay tribute and honor those who have sacrificed their time with their families and their lives to protect our great country.  While it should be a daily practice to thank a veteran, it is especially important on this national holiday.  Simply saying “thank you” is a small gesture that surely is appreciated.  Even something as posting a message on a social networking site to thank our veterans is special.  You never know who may come across that post and just needed to hear those words.

Veterans Day is a wonderful time to take a moment to thank our soldiers, Marines, sailors and airmen for their service and dedication to protect our Nation’s freedom and rights.  You may have an elderly loved one in your life who has battled in a war.  November 11 is a great time to inquire of your loved one’s war stories; if they are comfortable talking about them.  Why not take the time to find out your elderly loved one’s Veterans Day history?  You never know what interesting facts you may learn!

Being a military spouse is not easy now, nor was it in the past.  When thanking a veteran, whether they are young or old, remember to thank their spouse if they were with them during their commitment to the military.  A military spouse lives on an emotional roller coaster and they have to go months without seeing their loved one while they are deployed.  Something as simple as an email or text to a spouse of a veteran or actively serving soldier to say you are thinking of them and are grateful for their sacrifice can mean so much.
