Professional Elderly Care in the New Year

This New Year, try to take the time to find what makes you happy and never stop striving to achieve great happiness in your life.  Happiness can come in many forms.  It may be from watching with pride while your grandchild performs on stage after months of practice.  Happiness tends to coincide with time spent with loved ones.  Vow to spend more time with your family and friends.  Call on support to help you take care of your daily chores if they are getting in the way of spending quality time with loved ones.  Accept any invitation you receive; step a little out of your comfort zone.  Give more.  Remember that the more you give, the more joy comes back to you.  You may find joy in volunteering at a local animal shelter or donating canned goods or your time to a food shelf.  Sorting through closets to give donations to your Goodwill will help you to feel lighter in a sense; your home will have more room for movement without so many possessions that you are no longer of use to you.   You may find your happiness in completing a household project you’ve been putting off until you had the time.  The satisfaction of crossing something off the to-do list is quite rewarding.

While exercising may seem like a typical resolution for most people to lose weight, it does more than just get your body in shape.   Exercise doesn’t have to be strenuous to reap the many benefits such as improved symptoms of anxiety and depression.  Simply walking around the neighborhood during the week is all that is needed to see results.  Exercise helps to maintain the ability to live independently and reduces the risk of falling and fracturing bones.  Studies have shown regular physical activity may delay or prevent many diseases associated with aging, such as diabetes, colon cancer, stroke, and may reduce overall death and hospitalization rates.  Regular exercise will help you feel better physically, which will result in feeling better emotionally and mentally.

There’s no need to deprive yourself of the foods you love; just remember to eat them in moderation.  When we eat healthier food, we feel better.  Eat healthier knowing you are doing something good for your body.  Simply making better choices will make you feel happier because you will have renewed energy from eating cleaner foods.  This leads us to learning to eat better.  Try to cut out the processed foods; less white sugar and flour.  Start using fresh ingredients when preparing your meals like unprocessed and organic produce and meats.  Cut out foods with listed ingredients you can’t pronounce because they are most likely man-made chemicals.  When it comes to fast food, try to make it more of a treat and have it once in a while instead of multiple times a week.  Understanding the effects of processed and fatty foods that weigh you down will help you to realize that food is meant to be fuel for our body.

When the Times Square Ball drops in New York City’s Times Square, we all shout “Happy New Year” and send warm wishes to our family and friends as we celebrate.  The great ball drop is symbolic of the passage of time from one year to the next.   It’s typical in the early hours of the New Year to make resolutions to enhance our future.  Many revelers vow to get healthy and exercise more.  Some resolve to save more money in the New Year.  This year, let’s try something different.  Why not make it a goal to be happy this New Year!
