New Year and New In-Home Senior Help

The song ‘Auld Lang Syne’ is sung at the stroke of midnight in almost every English-speaking country in the world to ring in the New Year.  In spite of the popularity of ‘Auld Lang Syne’, it is also widely known as the song nobody really knows.  The lyrics of ‘Auld Lang Syne’ literally means ‘old long ago’ or simply ‘the good ole’ days.

As the New Year rings in, it’s not a bad idea to also bring in some symbolic luck.  Food items that are ring-shaped are a delicious form of good luck.  Some cultures celebrate the New Year by eating doughnuts.  This symbolizes coming full circle even if it isn’t helpful for a person who chooses weight loss as their New Year’s goal.  Black eyed peas are also often consumed in certain parts of the United States and other cultures.  These special foods are thought to bring good fortune and good luck to all who eat.

The word new is such a powerful one, isn’t it?  New babies, new job, new opportunities.  And the obvious:  New Year.  It is an opportunity to reinvent, start over, wipe the slate clean and create something fresh.  A good starting point for whatever it is you hope to achieve, the New Year can represent your chance to go, do achieve, or grow.  That’s probably why there is such positive psychology behind making New Year’s Resolutions, even if you don’t end up carrying all of them through to perfection.  This year, avoid burning out on your resolutions by keeping them in perspective and treat each day as a new chance and opportunity.

The top resolutions often made are behavioral commitments related to improving one’s health namely to stop smoking or to eat healthy and exercise and move more often.  If you have the desire to make changes in your life it is often helpful to make your resolutions known. Writing these resolutions down and sticking them on a bathroom mirror to see every day will help remind and keep goals fresh in mind.   Those who have been successful with their New Year’s resolutions got by with a little help from people around them.  By making your aspiration known to others as well, you get reminders every now and then that the efforts need to be consistent while receiving support along the way.  Once you have a clear, realistic goal for yourself, let a few loved ones know.  This way you will have a cheering section to keep you inspired in your pursuit.

This year, make your New Year’s resolution count.  If you have an elderly loved one in your life who could use some support in achieving their goals for the New Year, you can look to the highly trained and compassionate caregivers of Senior Helpers of Florence, 859-283-5500, to help.  Senior Helpers of Lansdale offers affordable in-home senior care to all areas of Ft.
