Meet the Panama City Office

More than 90% of seniors want to age in their own home with dignity but getting the right type of care can seem daunting. At Senior Helpers Panama City we believe that getting the best care for your loved ones should not be complicated. Jim McGee opened the Senior Helpers Panama City office because of his passion for helping others and his interest in the growing need for in-home care services. Jim and his team are committed to delivering the best possible in-home care to seniors in the Panama City community.

We take in-home care seriously and make it a priority to provide the highest level of client service possible. Over the years we have built an exceptional team of care professionals, each committed to remaining at the forefront of the in-home care industry through our proprietary ongoing training and education programs.

Our History

Senior Helpers was founded in 2002 by Tony Bonacuse with the help of Peter Ross after their firsthand experience in caring for their respective family members. Tony and Peter identified a need that was not being filled properly by the other companies. They realized most seniors would prefer to age in their own home rather than move into an unfamiliar institution. Unfortunately, the options available to most seniors were very limited. Most seniors did not have access to well-trained, dependable and affordable in-home care. This was the mission-driven spark that started Senior Helpers.

The first office opened in Baltimore, and quickly developed a reputation for delivering excellent in-home senior care with their well-trained staff of professional caregivers. Based on the success of the Baltimore location, the company began to expand. Over the past 13 years, the Senior Helpers family has grown to include a network of more than 300 locally owned and operated franchises across the United States.

Senior Helpers of Panama City, like every other location, is fully-committed to the original goal of providing dependable and affordable in-home care with well-trained caregivers. Nothing is more important to us than being the best available resource for seniors and families in our community.

Jim McGee was drawn to Senior Helpers because of the need he saw in Panama City for good caregiving assistance, especially for Veterans..

We have been lucky to serve hundreds of seniors in our community over the years, and we are committed to continuing to provide uncompromising levels of care to all our families.

Our process

The first step in the process is a complimentary, initial in-home care assessment with a Senior Helpers consultant. This assessment can help you understand the true needs of your loved one, and your options. Together we can discuss their needs, our senior care services and determine what’s best for your entire family.

We will cover:

  • Your family's specific goals
  • Your loved one's daily plan design and schedule
  • Pricing and payment methods
  •  Implementation process
  • Ongoing communication and follow-up plan

Meet the Panama City Team

James “Jim” McGee

Community Relations Consultant (CRC)

Jim is originally from New Mexico where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Theology with a minor in Business from the University of New Mexico. Over the years, Jim served in the Navy, was a minister for 15 years, was a Sales Manager for a Fortune 500 Company for 12 years, and he has owned four different businesses prior to Senior Helpers of Panama City.

Jim likes to tell people that he was "happily retired" before he had the idea of starting a Senior Helpers. Now, Jim is happily helping seniors of this community with options that were sorely needed and unavailable before Senior Helpers of Panama City was established. Jim is thrilled to provide exceptional caregiver services available to the central Panhandle - especially to Veterans.

Karen McGee

Dementia and Parkinson's Specialist

Karen has been on a mission to improve the lives of people who have dementia for over 20 years - ever since her own grandmother died of Alzheimer's disease. Karen grew up in Chicago, lived in New Mexico for 25 years, and now happily calls Panama City, Florida "home." Karen was a Speech Therapist for over 30 years but now advocates for seniors in Panama City as a Dementia and Parkinson's Specialist. Her new life includes working with community leaders to increase dementia / Parkinson's awareness by providing caregiver training, serving as guest speaker for community organizations, and establishing a new venue for the Panama City Parkinson's support group (see our calendar for more information).

Karen's goal is to "change the landscape" of dementia and Parkinson's care in the central Panhandle with specially trained caregivers who are employees of Senior Helpers of Panama City. "I've seen the positive impact Senior Helpers has on a community. The Parkinson's care program, Senior Gems® strategies, and caregiver training available with Senior Helpers are second to none! When I was a Speech Therapist, I discovered Senior Helpers while looking for ways to help my patients. Strategies offer solutions and change lives! Caregiver training is key; access to caregiver training with Senior Helpers is exemplary. Without special training we're nothing special; however, with caregiver training we improve connections, support independence, facilitate function, and protect dignity for our senior population."

Allison Lofton

Operations Manager

Allison grew up in Canada but moved to the states as a young adult. In the winter of 2012, Allison became a Certified Nursing Assistant and started working as a CNA / Scheduler for Senior Helpers in Texas. Fast forward a few years: Allison and her family moved to Panama City mid-2016 - just in time to help Jim and Karen open a new Senior Helpers office in Panama City. "It's great to have someone with Allison's training, experience, and dedication running the office." Not only is Allison a "Trainer of Trainers" for the Senior Gems® strategies, she has great "people skills" and a gift for multi-tasking.
