Our History
Senior Helpers was founded in 2002 by Tony Bonacuse with the help of Peter Ross after their firsthand experience in caring for their respective family members. Tony and Peter identified a need that was not being filled properly by the other companies. They realized that most seniors would prefer to age in their own home rather than move into an unfamiliar institution. Unfortunately, the options available to most seniors were very limited. Most seniors did not have access to well-trained, dependable and accessible in-home care. This was the mission-driven spark that started Senior Helpers.
The first office opened in Baltimore, Maryland, and quickly developed a reputation for delivering excellent in-home senior care with their well-trained staff of professional caregivers. Based on the success of the Baltimore location, the company began to expand. Over the past 13 years, the Senior Helpers family has grown to include a network of more than 300 locally owned and operated franchises across the United States.
A Local Office Built on Service and Accountability
Senior Helpers of San Francisco is locally owned and operated by Whit Lippincott, who brings both a lifelong appreciation for intergenerational connection and a professional background rooted in accountability and measurable outcomes.
Whit’s path to senior care was not defined by a single moment, but by a lifetime of relationships across generations. Some of his earliest memories involve close bonds with older family members and neighbors — people who helped shape his curiosity, confidence, and values. Long before he understood aging in a formal sense, he understood companionship, presence, and the important role older adults play in the lives of younger generations.
That understanding deepened when a close family member entered memory care due to Alzheimer’s. Whit witnessed firsthand how complex and emotionally taxing cognitive decline can be — not just for the individual, but for the entire family. He saw difficult days marked by confusion and frustration, but also meaningful moments where familiarity, conversation, and simple presence restored joy and dignity.
Those experiences left him with two lasting convictions:
- Aging can become isolating without consistent support
- Reliable human connection can change everything.
Before opening Senior Helpers of San Francisco, Whit built his career in investment banking and project finance, focusing on mission-driven industries that required careful planning, risk management, and operational discipline. He brings that same structured approach to delivering in-home care in San Francisco — ensuring that compassion is supported by systems that work under pressure.
Supporting Families, Not Just Clients
We recognize that families rarely seek home care casually. Many are balancing careers, caregiving responsibilities, and emotional stress. Our team is committed to listening carefully, setting clear expectations, and maintaining open communication from the first phone call forward.
We are building Senior Helpers of San Francisco to be:
- A trusted provider of senior home care in San Francisco
- A supportive employer where caregivers feel trained and valued
- A community partner focused on senior well-being and dementia awareness
- A reliable resource for families navigating aging in place
When caregivers are well-supported, clients and families feel the difference immediately.
Rooted in Community
Although relatively new to San Francisco, our office is committed to becoming deeply involved in the Bay Area community — partnering with local healthcare providers, senior centers, and community organizations to strengthen support systems for older adults.
San Francisco is a city known for independence, resilience, and connection. Our mission is to help seniors continue living life on their terms — safely and confidently at home.
