We have built an exceptional team of care professionals, each committed to remaining at the forefront of the in-home care industry through our proprietary ongoing training and education programs. Our History

Senior Helpers was founded in 2002 by Tony Bonacuse with the help of Peter Ross after their firsthand experience in caring for their respective family members. Tony and Peter identified a need that was not being filled properly by the other companies. They realized that most seniors would prefer to age in their own home rather than move into an unfamiliar institution. Unfortunately, the options available to most seniors were very limited. Most seniors did not have access to well-trained, dependable and accessible in-home care. This was the mission-driven spark that started Senior Helpers.

The first office opened in Baltimore, Maryland, and quickly developed a reputation for delivering excellent in-home senior care with their well-trained staff of professional caregivers. Based on the success of the Baltimore location, the company began to expand. For more than years, the Senior Helpers family has grown to include a network of more than 300 locally owned and operated franchises across the United States.

Senior Helpers of Sun City West-Surprise was proud to join the system in 2026. Like every other owner, we too are fully-committed to the original goal of providing dependable and accessible in-home care with well-trained caregivers. Nothing is more important to us than being the best available resource for seniors and families in our community. We are lucky to serve hundreds of seniors in our community, and we are committed to continuing to provide uncompromising levels of care to all our families.

The first step in the process is a complimentary, initial in-home care assessment with a Senior Helpers consultant. This assessment can help you understand the true needs of your loved one, and your options. Together we can discuss their needs, our senior care services and determine what’s best for your entire family.

My journey to Senior Helpers is rooted in a deeply personal experience. After witnessing my grandmother’s rapid health decline, I watched my mother step into the role of family caregiver without guidance or support. Like many families, we didn’t realize that professional caregiving and respite resources even existed. Seeing the emotional and physical weight my mother carried left a lasting impression and ultimately inspired me to help other families navigate the challenges of aging with greater support and confidence.

My wife Viktoria and I relocated our family to Sun City West with a shared sense of purpose—to serve the community and support those who are most vulnerable. Through Senior Helpers, I am building a compassionate team dedicated to providing high-quality care while also connecting families with trusted resources and community partners when they need them most.

I am passionate about being a trusted advocate for seniors and their families, ensuring they receive the dignity, respect, and support they deserve.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with Viktoria and our son Ezekiel (“Zeke”), walking the neighborhood with our Giant Schnauzer, Pache, and staying active in our church community.

Catherine Ruff, CNP

Office Manager (joining team February 23, 2026)

Catherine brings over a decade of experience in home health, hospice, senior care, and nonprofit services to the Senior Helpers Sun City West team. As a Certified Nonprofit Professional, she has built her career around referral development, patient advocacy, and community partnership — with deep roots right here in the West Valley.

Her background includes serving as Operations Manager for a home care agency, where she oversaw daily operations, caregiver training, intake coordination, and referral partnerships. She has also served in volunteer coordination and home services roles with Benevilla, a respected West Valley nonprofit, and currently volunteers with Mountain View Hospice providing compassionate support to patients and families.

Her certifications reflect both her expertise and her genuine heart for this work — including a Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card, CPR/AED certification, Notary Public for the State of Arizona, and a Support Group Facilitator credential through the Alzheimer's Association. She is also registered to begin Banner Health's Dementia ECHO program in early 2026, further deepening her expertise in memory care.

Catherine is a recognized community leader — a recipient of Benevilla's President's Award for Outstanding Nonprofit Service, a six-year American Cancer Society Team Captain who raised over $50,000, and a former mentor with Arizonans for Children Foundation.

She is a natural fit for the mission and values of our office, and we are genuinely excited to welcome her to the team.
