Visitation Resumes for Long-Term Care Facilities

Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic it has been an uphill battle for families who have loved ones being cared for in living facilities. Many facilities were directly impacted by the virus or located in highly affected area and visits came to a halt. Navigating through restrictions and health safety during an ongoing pandemic is no simple task. However, there may be some relief soon as some limitations for visitors are being lifted. In Texas, facilities opened on Sept 24th for visitation as long as they comply with specific health protocols. This will be the first time that some families they will get to see or speak with their loved ones in months.

Many residents rely heavily on family and friends for socialization skills. Routine visits are also important for residents’ physical abilities as they strive to stay active. Those who require specialized care for conditions such as dementia also have struggles and their conditions may worsen over time. These visits will be a restored sense of normalcy for many who will get to finally reconnect in-person. For more information regarding the status of visitation restrictions check with your local news sources or see this AARP tracker: https://www.aarp.org/caregiving/health/info-2020/nursing-home-visits-by-state.html
