Celebrating Valentines Day and In Home Senior Care
Valentine’s Day is the holiday best known for expressing how much we care for the special people in our day-to-day life. Each year, on February 14, we celebrate those who help to bring a smile to our face. There are many ways to show someone that we love them on Valentine’s Day.
One of the most common ways to show someone that we care on Valentine’s Day is to present them with a box of chocolates or some other sweet edible treat. The candy sentiments are flying off store shelves and are handed out in school classrooms and on romantic dinner dates. Even though it is customary to give candies on Valentine’s Day, it doesn’t mean that is the only way to show someone that we care.
Another great way to show a loved one you care on Valentine’s Day is through little gestures like leaving a note in the car for them to find before they head out for the day. The note doesn’t have to be detailed; a simple “I heart you” will suffice. Send out a prepared lunch with a sticky note of love. It doesn’t take much to warm a loved one’s heart on cold February morning.
Valentine’s Day is usually celebrated by giving flowers. Roses are traditional and each color rose has a different meaning: red is romance, white is spirituality, pink means appreciation, joy is found in the color yellow, and orange expresses enthusiasm and passion. While roses are very expressive and impressive ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day, flowers don’t have to be expensive and don’t necessarily have to be roses to express the love one feels. Sometimes all it takes is the thought and a delivery of a favorite lily or daisy bouquet. While bouquets and deliveries are a surprise, perhaps a pretty window plant that lasts past the week of Valentine’s Day would be more appreciated. All that really matters when sending flowers is the thought that’s behind the gesture.
On Valentine’s Day, it is easy to get wrapped up in the commercial side of things. We can easily be swayed into believing that the new piece of jewelry or fancy box of chocolates will be the only way to feel loved on this special holiday. In the end, it is important to realize that love is a feeling and not an item. Time spent with one another while creating special memories is going to outlast any floral arrangement, box of chocolates or paper card delivery. Time is a valuable commodity these days and taking the time to visit with a loved one and share a meal will be a gift of something truly rewarding.
