While proper medical attention is always necessary when it comes to illnesses such as the flu, it is important to remember that what you put in your body (besides prescribed medications) can certainly help fight everyday ailments!
Certain foods can boost your immune system to help better prevent illnesses while others provide the necessary nutrients needed to help your body fight against the flu! Here are some of our favorites:
- Beef – beef is an excellent source of zinc which is important in the development of the white blood cells that defend your body.
- Sweet potato – this delicious starch is packed with Vitamin A which helps play a key role in the health of your mucosal surfaces (the inside of your nose, gastrointestinal tract, as well as your skin)
- Dark Leafy Greens – dark leafy greens such as kale or spinach are great sources of Vitamin C which is proven to reduce the duration of a cold!
