Meet the Mid-Michigan Office

More than 90% of seniors want to age in their own home with dignity but getting the right type of care can seem daunting. At Senior Helpers of Mid-Michigan we believe that getting the best care for your loved ones should not be complicated. Barbara Roden opened the Senior Helpers of Mid-Michigan office in 2015 because of her passion for helping others and her interest in the growing need for in-home care services. Barbara is committed to delivering the best possible in-home care to seniors in the Mid-Michigan community.

We take in-home care seriously and make it a priority to provide the highest level of client service possible. Over the past three years we have built an exceptional team of care professionals, each committed to remaining at the forefront of the in-home care industry through our proprietary ongoing training and education programs.

Our History

Senior Helpers was founded in 2002 by Tony Bonacuse with the help of Peter Ross after their firsthand experience in caring for their respective family members. Tony and Peter identified a need that was not being filled properly by the other companies. They realized most seniors would prefer to age in their own home rather than move into an unfamiliar institution. Unfortunately, the options available to most seniors were very limited. Most seniors did not have access to well-trained, dependable and affordable in-home care. This was the mission-driven spark that started Senior Helpers.

The first office opened in Baltimore and quickly developed a reputation for delivering excellent in-home senior care with their well-trained staff of professional caregivers. Based on the success of the Baltimore location, the company began to expand. Over the past 13 years, the Senior Helpers family has grown to include a network of more than 300 locally owned and operated franchises across the United States.

Senior Helpers of Southeast Michigan was proud to join the system in 2007, and we have added three locations since. Like every other owner, we too are fully-committed to the original goal of providing dependable and affordable in-home care with well-trained caregivers. Nothing is more important to us than being the best available resource for seniors and families in our community.

Barbara Roden was drawn to Senior Helpers after her own father’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. She and her family found little help at that time for her father and decided there was a need in the community. She has opened 5 locations in Michigan, helping many families cope with their aging loved ones.

Our team has grown to include 4 team members and 50 caregivers. We have been lucky to serve many seniors in our community over the years, and we are committed to continuing to provide uncompromising levels of care to all our families.

Our process

The first step in the process is a complimentary, initial in-home care assessment with a Senior Helpers consultant. This assessment can help you understand the true needs of your loved one and your options. Together we can discuss their needs, review our senior care services and determine what’s best for your entire family.

We will cover:

  • Your family's specific goals
  • Your loved one's daily plan design and schedule
  • Pricing and payment methods
  •  Implementation process
  • Ongoing communication and follow-up plan

Meet the Mid-Michigan Team

Barbara Roden

Barbara Roden opened her first Senior Helpers office in 2007 in Southeast Michigan. She has since opened new offices in Auburn Hills, Grand Rapids, and Lansing, Michigan. Barbara was drawn to helping seniors after her father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and the family found few opportunities for help.

An active member of her community, Barbara serves on the Alzheimer’s Association Board of Directors and is frequently requested to speak on senior housing, options for aging loved ones and Alzheimer’s related topics. She is a member of the Michigan Home Health Association, past President of the Junior League Sustainers of Ann Arbor, and is a past official of the Senior Helpers’ Owners Council. She was the recipient of the International Franchisee of the Year Award in 2011. Barbara was a part of a film that was released in 2018 on PBS called “Those on the Front Lines of Alzheimer’s and Dementia”.

Brenda Ross

Director of Operations

Brenda became passionate about helping the aging population when her mother became ill six years ago and her family experienced first-hand the challenges of finding options to keep her in their family home while receiving quality care.

When she learned that Barbara Roden was preparing to expand to the Lansing area, Brenda reached out and shared her interest in joining the team to serve the community by offering much-needed dependable, in-home care.

In 2015 they opened the Okemos office and have been working together, with their fantastic team of office and caregiving staff, to serve seniors and their families by providing excellent in-home care ever since.

Tawnie Fedewa

Care Coordinator

I wanted to thank you for your assistance since mom left the hospital. We weren’t sure what we were going to do because we didn’t want her to stay by herself. I can’t say enough about Angela and mom really liked her. She was very professional and friendly. If we are in need of your services again, we will definitely give you a call. Thank you! "
