As our loved ones age, it is important for you and your family to preserve your elderly loved one’s precious stories and memories so they can live on for generations to come!
There are a lot of ways to keep your aging loved one’s story alive, but what’s better than asking them to write it themselves? Encouraging your loved one to write their own story can help refresh their memory or past events, feel like a valuable member of the family, as well as give them a sense of accomplishment for contributing something so important.
Not sure where to start? Here are some simple steps:
Write it down! Ask your aging loved one to write down their favorite memories or past events that stick out the most in their minds. If they have trouble writing, you can record them or video tape them!
Find a timeline! After the stories are complete, work with your aging loved one and other family members to get them in chronological order.
Copy and cherish! Once the stories are in order, make copies for everyone and bind them into a book or place them into a scrapbook!
