Did you know that August 9th is Book Lover’s Day?
This day was created for those who love to read, and we thought we could use this day to encourage you to read a book or two out loud with your aging loved one!
Did you know that reading out loud can actually enrich your life and improve your mental and physical health? Here are just a few of the benefits of reading out loud:
Sharpens Your Focus – When you are reading out loud, it is easier to devote your attention fully to the text which allows your brain to better understand the words and plot.
Increases Vocabulary – Saying words out loud is much more powerful than saying them in your head. When you say the words out loud, you get a better understanding of the meaning and the context of the word.
Improves Writing Skills – Hearing yourself read out loud will help you to better identify proper grammar and sentence structure which will in turn improve your writing skills.
As we age, many of us experience literacy loss where we can no longer read and write as accurately as we did in the past. Reading out loud to your aging loved one will help them get a richer understanding of the story, the words, and the emotions behind the text as well as keep their minds active.
