Healthy Meals That Keep You Cool and In Home Senior Care

The summer sun is blazing and the mercury is rising.  This can only mean that summer is in full swing.  We know how to keep cool and avoid unnecessary heat whenever possible by seeking shade, air conditioning and wearing loose clothing.  Some days, it’s helpful to also eat healthy meals that will also keep you cool.

One particularly good food for keeping cool is a cucumber.  Cucumbers are hydrating, so this is especially important for combatting dehydration during the summer months.  Cucumbers can be consumed on their own as a crunchy and delicious snack, or served with hummus or other veggie dip.  Cucumbers are great in salads, on sandwiches, and also served in a refreshing drink.  Watermelon acts the same way as a cucumber and also helps to cool the body tremendously.

Adding a lemon to your drink is not only a good way to flavor a boring glass of water, it is also helpful in boosting hydration.   Lemons are great for helping the body detoxify and also increases the desire to drink more water.  This is a win-win for helping to stay cool and avoid extreme thirst in the hot summer weather.

Soups may seem counterproductive for cooling the body, however cold soups are popular and tasty alternatives!  Tomato Gazpacho, cold cucumber soup, and cold avocado soups are great examples of delicious summer soups.  Some fruit soups are great for those with a sweet tooth, such as strawberry coconut soup, cold yogurt cucumber soup, and mango raspberry chilled soup.  All recipes are relatively easy to create and available with a quick search online.

In the end, foods that contain a high water content should be sought after for keeping cool in the summer.   Tomatoes, pumpkins, cauliflower, and carrots are also great foods loaded in nutrients as well as cooling properties for your body.  Keeping fruits and vegetables on the dinner plate that are seasonal is nature’s way of providing the hydration needed in the hot summer months.
