Shelby Serraglio, OTR/L

Shelby Serraglio, OTR/L

Care Team SERVICES MANAGER

Shelby joined the Senior Helpers Care Team in August of 2021. She is a licensed occupational therapist and had a calling to work with seniors from the very start in her fieldwork practicums; all of which were focused on elder care.  Shelby has worked with seniors for over 5 years in Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Long-Term Care communities as well as home health care.  While working in these different settings, Shelby began to find the value in Home Care services for enabling seniors to age safely within their homes with sufficient care to meet their needs and the quality care they deserve, which led her to join the Senior Helpers of the Bluegrass Team.  Shelby was born and raised in Lawrenceburg, KY and moved to Lexington, KY in 2009.  Sometime later she met her husband Michael, and Shooter (his dog); it was a package deal.  Shelby and Michael were married in October of 2020 and are excited to start a family in the near future.

Haley Day

Haley Day

Care Team SCHEDULING MANAGER

Haley joined the Senior Helpers Care Team in February 2018.  She discovered her passion for helping seniors roughly 7 years ago while working as a retail store manager.  During that time, she began privately providing home care assistance and housekeeping for multiple seniors.  Haley started her career with Senior Helpers as a part-time Caregiver working short shifts with multiple Clients.  She quickly earned the position of Lead Caregiver while helping launch a new concierge style service, called the TLC Program, with one of Senior Helpers’ local Independent Living community partners.  In 2019 Haley was promoted to Scheduling Coordinator and shortly thereafter promoted again to her current position.  It is Haley’s goal to enhance the lives of all her Clients by providing the best Caregiver matches possible in effort to assure that they receive the compassionate care they deserve.  In her youth, Haley was nationally ranked in archery and currently spends her spare time enjoying crafts, needlework, and spending time with her family.

Laurel La Forest

Laurel La Forest

Care Team SCHEDULING COORDINATOR

Laurel joined the Senior Helpers Care Team in June of 2020.  She started working as a Caregiver, after feeling a pull towards a career of helping those most in need during the Covid-19 pandemic.  Family and friends considered her a mothering and caring personality even as a young child, which made senior care come naturally to her.  She has an educational background in social work and sociology, which fuels her passion for helping seniors and Caregivers find the resources they need to succeed together.  Laurel was promoted to Scheduling Coordinator in 2021 and assists Haley in finding the perfect match between Caregivers and Clients.  Laurel grew up in multiple places as the child of a military family but found a permanent home in Lexington with her three cats. She likes to hike around Central Kentucky but can just as often be found at home caring for the many animals that come across her path.

Our History

Our History

Senior Helpers was founded in 2002 by Tony Bonacuse with the help of Peter Ross after their firsthand experience in caring for their respective family members. Tony and Peter identified a need that was not being filled properly by the other companies. They realized that most seniors would prefer to age in their own home rather than move into an unfamiliar institution. Unfortunately, the options available to most seniors were very limited. Most seniors did not have access to well-trained, dependable and affordable in-home care. This was the mission-driven spark that started Senior Helpers.

The first office opened in Baltimore, and quickly developed a reputation for delivering excellent in-home senior care with their well-trained staff of professional caregivers. Based on the success of the Baltimore location, the company began to expand. Over the past 13 years, the Senior Helpers family has grown to include a network of more than 300 locally owned and operated franchises across the United States.

Senior Helpers of the Bluegrass was proud to join the system in 2009. Like every other owner, we too are fully-committed to the original goal of providing dependable and affordable in-home care with well-trained caregivers. Nothing is more important to us than being the best available resource for seniors and families in our community.

Our team has grown to include 8 team members, and 90 caregivers. We have been lucky to serve hundreds of seniors in our community over the years, and we are committed to continuing to provide uncompromising levels of care to all our families.
