Meet the Lexington office

More than 90% of seniors want to age in their own home with dignity but getting the right type of care can seem daunting. At Senior Helpers of the Bluegrass we believe getting the best care for your loved ones should not be complicated. David and Lynn Vance opened the Senior Helpers of the Bluegrass office in 2009 because of their passion for helping others and their interest in the growing need for in-home care services.  David is committed to delivering the best possible in-home care to seniors in the Lexington community.

We take in-home care very seriously and make it a priority to provide the highest level of client service possible. Over the past 10 years we have built an exceptional team of care professionals, each committed to remaining at the forefront of the in-home care industry through our proprietary ongoing training and education programs.

Our History

Senior Helpers was founded in 2002 by Tony Bonacuse with the help of Peter Ross after their firsthand experience in caring for their respective family members. Tony and Peter identified a need that was not being filled properly by the other companies. They realized that most seniors would prefer to age in their own home rather than move into an unfamiliar institution. Unfortunately, the options available to most seniors were very limited. Most seniors did not have access to well-trained, dependable and affordable in-home care. This was the mission-driven spark that started Senior Helpers.

The first office opened in Baltimore, and quickly developed a reputation for delivering excellent in-home senior care with their well-trained staff of professional caregivers. Based on the success of the Baltimore location, the company began to expand. Over the past 13 years, the Senior Helpers family has grown to include a network of more than 300 locally owned and operated franchises across the United States.

Senior Helpers of the Bluegrass was proud to join the system in 2009. Like every other owner, we too are fully-committed to the original goal of providing dependable and affordable in-home care with well-trained caregivers. Nothing is more important to us than being the best available resource for seniors and families in our community.

Our team has grown to include 8 team members, and 90 caregivers. We have been lucky to serve hundreds of seniors in our community over the years, and we are committed to continuing to provide uncompromising levels of care to all our families.

Our process

The first step in the process is a complimentary, initial in-home care assessment with a Senior Helpers consultant. This assessment can help you understand the true needs of your loved one, and your options. Together we can discuss their needs, our senior care services and determine what’s best for your entire family.

We will cover:

  • Your family's specific goals
  • Your loved one's daily plan design and schedule
  • Pricing and payment methods
  •  Implementation process
  • Ongoing communication and follow-up plan

Meet the Lexington Team

David and Lynn Vance

Owners and General Managers

David and his late wife Cindy answered the call to serve seniors with quality home care in the fall of 2008. David, who previously practiced law as a healthcare attorney, and Cindy, a lifelong homemaker, both lost parents to cancer and faced significant caregiving issues along the course of the disease. An appreciation for the challenges family members face when seeking to provide reliable home care for their loved ones led David and Cindy to start Senior Helpers of the Bluegrass in January of 2009. David loves being part of an organization that meets this need for Lexington, Frankfort and the greater Bluegrass Region.  Lynn has been a Client Services Manger since Senior Helpers of the Bluegrass opened its doors in January of 2009. Lynn has Bachelor’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University and worked for the Kentucky Cabinet for Human Resources for 14 years. Her years at home raising her daughter allowed her the time to provide homecare to a grandmother that was recovering from a hip replacement as well as caring for her own mother who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. David and Lynn married in August 2016.

Gabriel Huffman

Director of Operations

Gabriel joined the Senior Helpers team in January 2017 but has been working professionally with Central Kentucky seniors and their families for nearly a decade.  Gabriel has been a member of the Bluegrass Continuity of Care Association, has served on the Bluegrass Elder Abuse Prevention committee, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s committee, and the Next Best Years of Your Life conference committee, previously served as Vice President of the Kentucky Association of Senior Services, and currently serves as Treasurer of the Bluegrass Aging Consortium.  His mission is to serve aging adults and their families by guiding them to solutions for meeting their individual needs while providing the highest quality of home care possible. Gabriel was born, raised, and currently resides in Lexington. He considers himself richly blessed to share the journey of life alongside his bride of over 18 years, Blair, while together raising their two sons Isaiah (17) and Caleb (15).

Let my mouth be filed with thy praise and with thy honour all the day.  Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth. -Psalm 71:8-9
