Make Exercising Part of Your Routine
There are numerous studies that prove the important health benefits associated with exercise. Exercising becomes more important as people age.
“Regular physical activity helps improve your mental and physical health,” said Operations Manager Robert Bicanic of the Northbrook-based Senior Helpers office serving the north and northwest suburbs. “If you want to maintain your independence as you age, both are important.”
Here are five benefits as to why seniors should exercise.
- Endurance (biking, hiking, swimming, aerobics)
- Strength training (weights, push-ups, sit-ups)
- Stretching (yoga, Pilates, simple repetitive stretches)
- Balance (standing on one foot, placing one foot in front of the other and walking along a line)
