"I can't sleep until I let you know how blown away I am by the professionalism, and care shown by your company already towards myself and my mom. First, your calls during your time off, followed by lovely Vanessa who made an instant connection with mom. This morning, I find mom beaming as she was walking down the hallway with Laurie and, finally, I belatedly checked my voice mails on my drive home to find a message from Pam describing the plan and all that she had found thus far. During this new chapter with mom, it is beyond comforting to know that people are there for you when you need them."

"My mother is being moving onto the Memory Care Unit the beginning of next week. We appreciate the assistance Senior Helpers has provided this past month. Again, thank you for your help in keeping our Mom safe."

"Senior Helpers of Charlottesville has been amazing! My Mother in Law in VA needs transportation to and from medical appointments. I am located 7 hours away and needed to arrange this from PA. Fred took the time to listen and diagnose the best scenario for what our needs are. We have used their services several times and will continue to do so. He and his team have been compassionate, caring and have gone above the call of duty when helping with my mother in laws situation. I would highly recommend their services and feel at peace knowing that someone is able to care for my mother in law when we are far away. We trust Senior Helpers."

Senior Helpers of Charlottesville, particularly Fred Haar, Debbie Smith, and Cassie Haley, have been a vital part of offering my mother a dignified transition from early to mid-stage Alzheimer's disease while allowing me (her primary care-giver) some respite from this sad and stressful process. I have been deeply impressed by the professionalism, compassion and patience of everyone I have worked with in this office.

My sister-in-law, whose mother is also a Senior Helpers customer in another state, did the initial research, finding and communicating with Fred. Once Fred and I were in touch, he worked hard to find us the best Senior Helpers office for our needs, which turned out to be Debbie Smith's in Winchester, VA. Debbie connected us with Cassie, and a very effective partnership was formed.

Both Fred and Debbie stayed in touch with us throughout the time we were working with Cassie to ensure that our needs were being met. Their patience with last minute scheduling, trying to find the most efficient billing system, and panicked last minute phone calls at tax time was deeply appreciated.

Cassie's lovely, extroverted personality and her professionalism made our introduction to companion-care fun for Mom and worry-free for me. My mother is still adjusting to the completely new environment of suburban Washington D.C. after living most of her life in rural upstate N.Y. Her case of Alzheimer's disease, in combination with a naturally reserved and introverted nature, is compounding her adjustment difficulties. Cassie decided very quickly that the most important thing my mother needed was a friend who did not have the baggage that inevitably comes with family relationships and set out to become her companion in the best sense. Cassie worked hard to figure out what Mom enjoyed doing and how to do those things in the new environment. She communicated effectively and often with me to make sure that she was finding the best balance with Mom's wishes and what Mom actually needed (sometimes at odds because Mom is largely unaware of the impact her illness has on herself and people around her). They quickly established a routine that involved getting out of the house for several hours each visit for a combination of errands and shopping, followed by relaxing and chatting in front of the television. While this may not seem that significant, this routine allowed me to work on my master's degree, get errands run, and get much needed respite for 10 precious hours each week. While it was not a requirement for Mom's care, I was reassured that Cassie had some medical training because I felt like it meant she might spot problems I was too close to see. Cassie found a full time job locally that demanded she stop working for us (we were an hour away and could only offer her 10 hours a week plus mileage). We were all sad to see her go but are tremendously pleased that she had found work that was more convenient for her after 10 months of commuting over an hour (one way!) to work with us.

I heartily recommend Senior Helpers of Charlottesville to anyone who is looking for trustworthy, reasonably-priced, and conscientious care for an older loved one. It is worth noting that the only reason we are no longer using this office is because Debbie referred us to a more local office when Cassie found her new job. I think it shows tremendous integrity that Debbie felt it was important to allow us to try to find a more cost-effective care-giver who wouldn't need a substantial mileage surcharge added to their fees when Cassie moved on. We are now working with the local subsidiary of Sr. Helpers of Fairfax and are happy with their service as well.
