Senior Helpers NYC is pleased to announce the appointment of President, Kathy Livingston, to the Board of Directors of New York Memory Center. Ms. Livingston has served on the board previously and is excited to return in the role as Treasurer. The Senior Helpers’ team strongly believes in the mission of New York Memory Center and the quality programs offered.
This Brooklyn based not for profit began offering services to individuals both diagnosed with and touched by memory loss. Since 1983, the Center has touched countless lives of those facing dementia through support programs, educational seminars and wellness programs. The core services offered by the Center involve programming that includes activities for physical engagement, as well as mental stimulation. Families can register loved ones for the day services, while taking advantage of the family support resources themselves.
Megan Christ, Caregiver Social Worker of the Family Resource Program at New York Memory Center shared, “Family care is not always addressed. This program gets people connected, and helps them with what they need.” Christ continues, “The feedback from families is that is has been very helpful.”
In addition to the above mentioned programs, New York Memory Center co-produces The Memory Arts Café with poet in residence, Gary Glazner. This program is open to the community and features guest artists in various locations throughout Brooklyn that include the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and Brooklyn Museum. There are approximately 10 events open to the public each year with the next Memory Arts Café taking place on September 9th at the Memory Center.
