Senior Helpers would like to take a minute to wish everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day Weekend! We would like to send a special thank you to all those who have served and are currently serving our country.
While Memorial Day is often celebrated with cookouts and pool openings, we thought it was important to remember the true meaning of this holiday and pay tribute to the heroes Memorial Day recognizes.
Memorial Day was originally started in early 1866 when a group of women visited a cemetery to decorate the graves of confederate soldiers. In 1966 President Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring Waterloo, NY the “birthplace” of Memorial Day. By the end of the 19th century, Memorial Day ceremonies were being held throughout the country to honor fallen heroes.
We hope that you enjoy your holiday weekend and we hope you are able to take a moment to thank a special veteran or active duty soldier in your life. Click here to learn more about how Senior Helpers is helping veterans.
Happy Memorial Day!
