This Memorial Day, before you pull out the grill and crack open the cooler by the pool, take a moment to remember what this holiday is all about. This holiday is more than just the start of summer festivities.
Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. It is a United States federal holiday occurring every year on the final Monday of May.
Has anyone in your family served in the military? Perhaps your grandmother or grandfather served in WW2 like mine did. How much do you know about their time in the service? This weekend, find out! Talk to your aging loved one about life in the military. Ask them about their friends in the service, their time apart from their loved ones, and how the military changed their lives.
Even if your aging loved one was not in the military, they can tell you what America was like during WW2. Ask them what they did to help or what was like to have their friends and family members overseas with nothing more than letters to communicate.
Honor your aging loved one this weekend by remembering their story.
Happy Memorial Day and thank you to all who have and continue to serve our country!
