Senior Helpers® is proud to be the exclusive in-home care sponsor of online caregiver resources for The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. The Michael J. Fox Foundation is the largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson’s disease research in the world and is dedicated to providing educational resources, including those that help families and organizations learn how to care for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease. Senior Helpers’ independently-owned franchised businesses hire and train caregivers across the country to help in the homes of seniors who live with a variety of conditions, including Parkinson’s disease.

Senior Helpers’ expertise in providing care for those who live with Parkinson’s disease comes from in-depth training on how to care for seniors with a variety of age-related ailments. Parkinson’s disease is a unique challenge for caregivers, which is why Senior Helpers has invested so extensively to train its caregivers with the best information and tools available to make sure all Senior Helpers clients who live with Parkinson’s can live in comfort and as independently as possible given their condition. This is a powerful reason why the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research elected to partner with Senior Helpers.

The Michael J. Fox Foundation uses Senior Helpers’ sponsorship to enhance its existing caregiver resources web page and related content that is shared on its blog and social media channels. The resources web page helps families and organizations understand how Parkinson’s disease affects families and relationships, and provides content to help these individuals understand the course of action that may be best for them. Included in these resources are a “Caregiver Guide,” which includes educational content and recommendations for caregivers, and an “Ask the MD” short video that shares quick tips from a medical professional for caregivers who help individuals living with Parkinson’s disease. The enhanced caregiver resources will be located on in the “Understanding Parkinson’s” section of the website.

Senior Helpers is proud to partner with the Parkinson’s Foundation, where the goal is to make life better for people with Parkinson’s by improving care and advancing research toward a cure. Local Parkinson’s Foundation networks provide the Parkinson’s community with a range of enriching services including support groups, wellness classes and education programs.

The Parkinson’s Foundation provides invaluable resources for caregivers and people living with Parkinson’s. Their series of free educational books, including Caring and Coping, can be downloaded at or through their toll-free Helpline at 1-800-4PD-INFO (473-4636). The Parkinson’s Today blog features a section, Caregiver Corner, created for caregivers. In 2018, the Foundation will host its second Caregiver Summit to address the dual role of caregivers: caring for a person with Parkinson’s, and caring for themselves. All 2016 sessions can be viewed online. The Parkinson’s Foundation also offers free resources for caregivers and people with Parkinson’s such as: webinars, podcasts, a life-saving hospitalization kit and videos about caring for someone with advanced Parkinson’s.

See the links on the right above for more information on Parkinson’s disease and what caregivers can do today to make those they love who live with Parkinson’s disease more comfortable and independent.
